The talent was undoubtedly there, but the way he played some days, I was thinking he was going to be more of a Joaquin. You know an immense talent, out of 5 play 1 fantastic game, 3 reasonable ones and one awful one. Silva's first season for Valencia was really really good, and he, along with the club regressed (Koeman tried to turn him into Xavi), then the club went back on track and despite being decent he screwed a lot of things up and injuries didn't help him either. At worst he'd have been a reasonable piece of business but now the money paid for him looks very reasonable.Originally posted by Mostar View PostThere is a reason why Rafa wanted him so bad few years back and if it wasn't for the fact we were skint he would have been a red now..
Talking about a player who could really be something; Sergio Canales. Reminds me a lot of Silva. Not so much Silva when he was young, but an inconsistent version of this Silva now, stylistically anyway.

He was always talented at Valencia. But he'd drift in and out of games. For Spain he was the same. Glimpses of talent, then he'd disappear. Mata seemed the better of the two. But lets face it they're both insanely talented.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostClearly not
re Spain, he's never been a regular for them, always in and out of the side (more often 'out'). Even then you could see his class when called up, he played well whenever picked in Euro 2008 (and he was only 23 then), scoring in the semis IIRC.
He's come on in leaps and bounds at City though. He's incredible now, living up to his promise and bringing it all game. I think he'll be the Player of the season.

Thats the only time I can remember getting it so wrong when judging a player.
I hold my hands up.
I was Clearly wrong.. By a distance.
He is a wonderful, wonderful footballer. A joy to Watch.
I'll just like to Add.
Little Pea, Rooney, Young,Phil Jones, Torres, Mata, Van Persie,Modric, VDV, Adebayor have been a revelation thou.
Enrique, Coates, Adam, Downing, Henderson, Carroll,Saurez.
I'm not impressed with. I think they will flop in the premiershipLast edited by Baracus; 24-10-11, 01:59 PM.

He's obviously improved as practically every player does between the ages of 23-26, it's natural. He was a young player at Valencia too.Originally posted by Harv View PostHe was always talented at Valencia. But he'd drift in and out of games. For Spain he was the same. Tried to get a bet on him (and Suarez) for player of the season before it started but couldn't find a market. He's been fantastic for ages now.
It'll be intriguing next summer to see how Spain's strongest XI looks. Silva is still by no means guaranteed a place. It's insane. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Probably because they did'nt want to be seen to be ripped off by H&G, they may have money to burn, but every man and their dog knew H&G were looking for a soft touch, someone to pay them silly money, don't suppose Mr Mansour wanted to be that soft touch.Originally posted by cream View PostWhy couldn't the arabs buy us

I'd say because they'd want to build their own empire, i.e., take a club with little to no recent success and transform them into one of the best clubs in the world. We have too much prior success/history, they'd have just been another chapter in the club's history, whereas at City they're effectively writing the bookOriginally posted by cream View PostWhy couldn't the arabs buy us

Probably a blend of all three. I think the stadium issue is / was the biggest problem to be honest. City already had a new one in place which saved any potential buyer another £300+ million or whatever.

hmmm, i'm not sure, imagine having to negotiate a price with H&G knowing they were out to fleece you, then look at the cash they are investing, nay..throwing at City and into manchester itself, i'm not sure the stadium would have been such a big deal for them, sponsorship would have more than covered it imo, and i don't think they'd have been short of takers going on what we've seen from them so far.Originally posted by Fivex View PostI'd say 5% that and 95% stadium...
*cough* etihad *cough*
But obviously you could be right, just wrong on the percentages.
