    #avfc It's cost Randy Lerner £82.5m since 2008 for 2 6th-place finishes. Club made £43.7m loss last year http://tinyurl.com/yd7juh6

#avfc Could it be that having spent £179m underwriting the club since 2006, Rand Lerner is wondering what's in it for him?

Marcotti Point is, why not find talent in ENG football pyramid and roll the dice? Or are all mgrs in football league a bunch of idiots?

JimBoardman Has Sam Allardyce put himself forward for the Villa job yet?

rorysmith_tel @Marcotti Brian or Sean? There's a few in the lower leagues who deserve a crack. Notably Eddie Howe. #avfc maybe a bit too big, though.

rorysmith_tel On Moyes: I don't think he'd go to #avfc. I just wanted to point out that he's the only outstanding PL manager they could even consider.

Marcotti Villa job: why do you have to go for a "big name"? Why not give an up-and-comer from the Championship a shot? Like, say, O'Driscoll

There was a report in the Guardian last year that Lerner hadn't actually put any of his own money into Villa.

To be fair to Learner, he has already invested a lot of money on players and getting some of that back on a couple of profitable sales is only fair.

Just out of curiosity does anyone know what is Villa's net spends under Lerner?
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Can't understand why Villa fans would have wanted O'Neill gone last year. I think he has done a good job there. Look at the teams finishing above him - they have spent a lot of money to get there. I am sure we have spent more and couldn't do any better last year.

I have met O'Neill and found him a very passionate, intelligent man.

I'm just wondering because I've hearing (from a Villa fan) about them never having money to spend. I can only find last seasons transfers but they had a net spend of £21m last season (inc summer and January). I can't really remember any transfers before that to know to what extent that may or may not be a one off.

They never forgave him for going out of the UEFA cup in Russia after fielding a team with only 2 members of the first team squad. When they had a very good chance of going all the way.

Nope. He managed Aston Villa, it's only his arrogance that leads him to think he should be able to keep players despite silly offers from teams higher up the league. It's Aston Villa.

Dunno about his whole tenure, but Villa's net spend from May 2007-May 2010 was £64m.

We all know that when it comes to O'neil and selling players it is a case of

Player x is worth £xm so lets add a couple of digits on top! Wouldn't surprise me if hes walked as City have offered £30m for Milner which the club are happy with but that greedy goblin wanted £35m+ and resigned as the club accepted £30m then told him he will see £0m
