Phil Brown has finally broken his silence on the Aston Villa vacancy.
The Villa Park hotseat is still available following Martin O'Neill's shock resignation, and Brown has confirmed he has applied.
"Villa are a massive, massive club. There's no doubt about that. It is a club recognised in Europe and a squad packed full of quality players. Who wouldn't want that job?"
Under caretaker boss Kevin MacDonald's stewardship, Villa have endured an up and down start, but Brown believes he is the man to take the club to the next level.
"Phil Brown has proved what he can do and Phil Brown has nothing to prove to anyone.
"The Hull job was a daunting one but I never wavered from my ardent belief that we would be promoted to the Premier League. And sure enough we were.
"I know I did a good job at Hull and, yes, I've thrown my hat into the ring and I've sent my CV, which I believe is impressive. I've worked with some of the best and most knowledgeable people in world football, such as Sam Allardyce for example.
Brown refused to be drawn on whether he has received a response from Villa.
"I won't go into that. Aston Villa know where Philip Brown is and Philip Brown knows where Aston Villa are. If they want me, they only have to call. I'm hopeful. I believe I can take them into the Champions League, keep them there and who knows, maybe even win the thing.
