he hates us a bit less now because City have more money than United...
Gary Neville claims that he has more respect for Liverpool than Manchester City.
The veteran defender, 35, is revered by Manchester United fans for his well-documented hatred of the Anfield club and has transferred his dislike to the clashes between the two sides, most famously following a 1-0 win in 2006.
Roy Hodgson's side travel to Old Trafford next Sunday for their first clash of the season with the Red Devils but Neville has admitted that whilst he despises the Reds, he has far greater respect for the club than United's free-spending neighbours City.
He said: "When I was younger there was no doubt about it - I was a United fan, they [Liverpool] were winning everything and it was a horrible time.
"Jealousy, hatred, passion for your own club, you don't want them to win anything and you don't like the people who're winning.
"I suppose it comes from jealousy through my childhood but I have more respect for them as a club in a sense of their tradition and their history than I do for some other clubs who've been coming on the scene in the last few years, throwing a load of money at it.
"Liverpool have got a good history, you have to hand it to them, and they've been successful."
