Neville - I love Liverpool
Manchester United skipper Gary Neville claimed last night he now has more respect for old rivals Liverpool than he does for Manchester City.
Neville is loved by United fans for his unashamed hatred of Liverpool.
But speaking ahead of the clash with Roy Hodgson's side at Old Trafford a week on Sunday, Neville hinted at how much City have got under his skin since they started spending big over the last two years.
Neville, 35, said: 'When I was younger there was no doubt about it - I was a United fan, they (Liverpool) were winning everything and it was a horrible time.
'Jealousy, hatred, passion for your own club, you don't want them to win anything and you don't like the people who're winning.
'I suppose it comes from jealousy through my childhood but I have more respect for them as a club in a sense of their tradition and their history than I do for some other clubs who've been coming on the scene in the last few years, throwing a load of money at it. Liverpool have got a good history, you have to hand it to them, and they've been successful.'
The rivalry between United and Liverpool has stayed strong, despite the fact that the Merseyside club have only sporadically challenged for the title over the last two decades.
However, City's emergence as a force in the Barclays Premier League has upped the ante in Manchester and Neville clearly feels that as intensely as anyone.

Unless it says "Gary Neville is a Cunt"Originally posted by Reece View PostAlready a thread for this, so I've merged them. And moved to General football, as I don't think people really want to see "Gary Neville" in any thread title in the Liverpool section.
amirite*Except Michael, who died.

I don't see the problem with what he's said. When he was a kid he hated Liverpool. When I was a kid I hated Manchester United. I grew out of it - sounds like maybe he is..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Fair play. I still clearly need loads of growing up to do.Originally posted by Neil Young View PostI don't see the problem with what he's said. When he was a kid he hated Liverpool. When I was a kid I hated Manchester United. I grew out of it - sounds like maybe he is.

I still dislike them.
And maybe I'd strongly dislike them if I lived in Manchester. Maybe.
But let's be honest, middle-aged football tribalism is pretty undignified..

Completely agree.
My Manc mates and I agreed a while back to bring it all to an end. It was all my doing but mostly they've gone along with it. They know how I feel about them, I know how they feel about us. I know what they'll be thinking about any given situation, and vice-versa. It's a lot better. The arguments would always get totally out of hand and we'd end up insulting each other etc. What's the ****ing point.
The feelings on my part are still there, alive and kicking, I just keep them simmering under the surface when I'm in the company of Mancs.
Then I go home and rant to the wife until I'm blue in the face

There's a difference though, between letting it turn discussions with manc-supporting mates into full-on arguments and insulting each other - and simply despising MUFC & people like Ferguson, Neville and the like.Originally posted by Shaggy View Post

I have a good few MUFC supporting mates and whilst i hate their club, it doesnt affect the fact that they're mates...and it certainly doesnt lead to anything more than banter-type arguments. All light hearted enough.
Still hate MUFC with a passion though.

Absolutely. My point is I despise them and they know it. If it comes to the surface when we're together it invariably gets out of hand and there's no point in jeopardising long-standing friendships over football.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostThere's a difference though, between letting it turn discussions with manc-supporting mates into full-on arguments and insulting each other - and simply despising MUFC & people like Ferguson, Neville and the like.
