    Aside from the obvious of meaning they have to stop for 4 weeks during the tournement they probably need a week after it and at 2-3 weeks before it.

    But the other divisions in the pyramid need to stop to match the calendar. They can't run their season at the normal time or it will screw with promotion and relegation.

      It really was a daft decision to hold it there and the cynic in me believes the reason it's being held there is down to some hefty dodgy payments being made into a few peoples bank accounts.

        Yeah it's turning into a bit of an ordeal. In theory, I'm really into the idea of a World Cup hosted in the Middle East. It's by far the most popular sport in the region and there is so much football potential wasted by a lack of proper development infrastructure. Unfortunately, the only states wealthy and stable enough to host a tournament like this one are in the Gulf, where South Asian immigrants are subjected to borderline inhumane working conditions and temperatures are unlivable in the summertime. If I could control for all the conflict and underdevelopment, I would pick Lebanon or Egypt as a host nation. They would be perfect. Football is the heartbeat of legions of Middle Eastern youth.

          It's a total joke it's screwing the whole world football calendar up. If they really liked the Qatar bid I think they should have discussed with the associations as to how a World Cup at some other time would have worked. To have reached this situation just proves that the people in charge of running the game are at best incompetent and at worse corrupt.
          The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

                [ame="http://youtu.be/bIIXWn_m41c"]Al Wakrah Stadium - YouTube[/ame]

                Qatar here we come: Check out the first video of a 2022 World Cup venue... a 40,000 capacity stadium inspired by a boat

                Technology corporation AECOM have released a video showing their plans for a 40,000 capacity stadium for the Qatar World Cup.

                The tournament - controversially expected to be played in Winter because of the soaring heat - will take place in 2022.
                The design of the Al Wakrah Stadium takes inspiration from a 'dhow boat', a transportation that carried generations of local fisherman and pearl divers in the Asian country.

                The stadium 'weaves together Qatar's past with it's progressive vision for the future' and will be made with sustainable materials.
                All stadia are expected to be air conditioned for perfect viewing for football, and this design is no different.

                  Meh. I'm not going to watch it live, so it could be safe and basic and I'll still only be fussed by what happens on the pitch.

                  40,000 for a purpose built World Cup stadium is wank too.

                        Don't know if this has been posted previously but I heard today that Platini was apparently in favour of the Qatar bid and by utter coincidence his son was given a top job by the Qatar owned sports company Burrda.

                            wow

                            Platini has acknowledged that Sarkozy wanted the Qataris to buy PSG and Platini to vote Qatar in Fifa's 2010 World Cup decision but denies that his president's urging influenced his vote. Platini's son, Laurent, was subsequently offered the job as chief executive of Burrda, the QSI-owned sports clothing company, which Platini says is completely unconnected to him voting for Qatar.

                                Sadly it's not a massive surprise though.

                                The obvious corruption in football is staggering and it's just ignored as those that have the power to do something about it are those that are benefitting from it all.
