But didn't he spend £10m on Thierry Henry when he was considered a flop at Juventus? At the time, it was quite a lot of money. He's made massive profits because he has been able to sell those players for much higher value. Then, his strategy shifted into buying even more younger players. I think it's been his choice as he never complained, as opposed to complaining that some players should have their salaries capped etc ...Are we winning?

He never complained, but it's not 'his choice' as much as Arsenal's policy.Originally posted by NigelLG View PostBut didn't he spend £10m on Thierry Henry when he was considered a flop at Juventus? But he espouses them, if not he would have gone elsewhere, he's had the opportunity to do so because he has a rolling contract (2 years). He knew that the stadium had to be built as well, knowing that concessions had to be made.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostHe never complained, but it's not 'his choice' as much as Arsenal's policy. Are we winning?

I think that his philosophy of buying/developing young players does suit Arsenal's way of prudent spending, but it does rely on Wenger's tremendous eye for a good player at a young age because there's still an element of risk paying £5m on an unproven 15 year old, but they'd take this over paying £20m on an established one, giving them more leverage.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostYou're skirting the issue here. The fact is, he has worked under considerable financial constraints, compared to United, Chelsea, City and even Spurs. Are we winning?

Good manager but vastly over rated and some of the hyperbole in this thread is pathetic.
In crisis when he took over???
He inherited Seaman, Dixon, Adams, Bould, Keown, Winterburn, Merson, Platt, Bergkamp, Wright, Parlour and Hartson how the **** is that crisis???
Yes he has introduced proper conditioning and nutrition, plays great football but this rubbish about the Arsenal youth system being amazing is absolute bollocks.
He was the first manager to import masses of youngsters on the basis that some will come through but the only young players he has actually produced rather than bought during his time are Wilshere and Gibbs.
Wenger has brainwashed everyone including the media (shock) so that any little tackle on his players gets the opposition a red while his lot get away with murder (comparitively)
He has also convinced everyone that it is ok to not win a single thing just as long as the football is nice and pretty.
Don't get me wrong he has been great for Arsenal but he inherited a dozen proven PL players had the best GK and defenders around at that time so he had a massive headstart.
He's refused to buy a decent goalkeeper, the unpronouncable centre backs he bought in the summer are absolute garbage and Denilson makes Lucas look world class. The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

He copied Barcelona, nothing more, nothing less.
The same youth team structure.
Brought a club philosophy to the club. Now every Arsenal fan can point to a few things and say, this is Arsenal.
The most important thing is that he was allowed full control to build up that philosophy. We should have done the same thing with Rafa.
Play in the same way.
As I said, copied Barcelona.Stop the cyberhate

from now on I will skip talking about our finances. That is a promise and will save myself from looking like a

I never said that it was easy. I only said that he copied Barcelona. To be able to do that you need a very understanding board that don't put short term before long term success.Originally posted by Craig_H View Post

Methinks that praising Wenger is a wind-up to scum fans. Ginsoaked is clearly the best manager the Premier League's seen. Bearing in mind the Premier League is only 18 years old and he's won it 11 times FFS. That's 60% of all PL titles being won by that cunt and his team.
It's not about building teams for the future, it's about being the best team over the course of 1 season and then doing it again. And again, and a-****ing-gain. Slur Alex is a master at it, and I hate to say it
I caught some of an interview with him on FF (I usually turn the sound down, as with Gerry Adams in the 90s
) and he was talking about maintaining control. He said that the manager is absolutely the most important person at the club and that once his control is lost then there's no point any longer. Made me wonder how good we'd have been if we ever had a manager who controlled the side completely. I've always had the feeling that Gerrard/Carra have too much power over the hierarchy at the club which must've hindered our progress to a degree.
Ferguson > Wenger > My Dog > Hodgson
