The deal for Carroll/Torres was much more than just the 15m price tag difference, we probably saved about 50k per week in wages, over a 4 year contract this is quite a lot. That saving was probably given to Suarez who probably earns much more than Babbel, who he replaced.

lot more to a transfer than simply the initial outlay to buy the player.

Bar few exceptions you cannot sign a first class player and pay high transfer fee and expect to pay disproportionally less in wages.

Those players will deliver, for the most part, and will justify the financial outlay but it is true that having a club like Cityh where money doesn't seem to be an issue certainly compounds the high wages problem in general.

The way around imo is to recruit the top notch young talent early enough and even though we may still pay fair amount in transfer fees, the wage bill should not be in line as they would be still unproven at the biggest stage.
A £200k per week tax free wage is difficult for most clubs to justify (that is about £400K per week BEFORE tax)

This is where I think some people have totally unrealistic expectations

There are exceptions to these rules I mean Suarez is a great player and his wages are well in line with expectation but there is a massive difference between paying somebody £70k per week before tax and paying somebody £200K per week tax free

        Indeed

I've heard lots of people comparing Carroll & Aguero transfers and saying the difference is only £5 million (transfer fees Carroll £35 million & Aguero £40 million)

Yet Aguero is taking home £200K per week tax free (£400K per week gross) and we are paying Carroll something like £80K per week gross (if you believe the reports at the time)

Over 5 years the Aguero deal including fee & wages will cost City £144 million (if the figures quoted for transfer fee & wages are correct)

Over the same period the Carroll deal will cost us £55.8 million (assuming the figures quoted above are correct)

They're taking more risks it's clear. Will our strategy bring us success in the medium to long term we don't know for sure but City will probably win the league before we win it.
          Are we winning?

they are but then they're running Man City as a completly unsustainable business in fact it's being run as a play thing for the owners, there are very few clubs out there that can or would pay the sort of money Man City have to get to the position they are in.

I for one would prefer looking at building ourselves for the long term as we currently are.

Citys model is financially unsustainable (even in the long term)

Their current wage budget is £30-40 million higher than their turnover

If they werent being propped up by Abu Dhabi they'd be in deep ****

                    144m - 55.8m = 88.2 m Divide by 5 year contract = 17.64m

I wonder would Augero bring in 17.64m more revenue into the club ever year through Shirt Sales, Joint Marketing, goals etc? I dunno. Just Saying

We'd be busting our wage structure to sign Aguero, which just wasn't going to happen. How much does Suarez ask for in his next contract then? and every other great player we try to sign, yip 200k a week.

Completely unsustainable for any club with a sheik.

Could Augero have Generated £500,000 extra every premiership game for us in Revenue. Just Saying.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Yes, you're right, no 'armchair manager' has ever heard of wages.

                            How utterly condescending

Lec - question for you mate, re the debate with Arn about him saying we 'should' spend stupid money even though the FFP rules dont allow it.

You pulled him up on it, saying how daft it was to say we 'must' do something that we're not allowed to do. While i agree with your point of view, re us not being allowed to do it due to FFP, my question is - how come City have done it then? Does the same not apply with FFP?

                              Comment

I don't think City are worrying about FFP at the moment and will cross that bridge when they come to it.

There will be loopholes apparently here is an early one
