A player is worth whatever anyone is willing to spend on them. There are no set values as such. Lille are a moderate sized French club and have no hope of ever keeping Hazard long term.

He will leave eventually and he will go to the highest bidder. The problem is we (the fans) would only want him if he continues to impress, but if he continues to impress he will attract the attention of many big clubs, which will push his price up.

Whether or not we would have a chance of signing him would depend on when we draw the line at his price being too much of a gamble.

If you think back, the £18m Atletico spent on Augero was a gamble, but he's worth far more than that now. Had he flopped though, they'd have stood to lose about £12m.

Whilst if you look at Babel, he's been a failure and cost us £11.5m. Yet we still had a chance to sell him not so long back for £9m to Birmingham. So we would have only lost £2.5m.

If we could get Hazard for £15m or less I would say he'd be worth a gamble, though I think we should really be looking at young talent at around £12m or less to reduce the risk of losing big money on players.

For £12m you can still get very talented youngsters, the likes of Bale, Ramsey and Walcott all cost less than that for example, and they were home grown players so come with that extra bit of cost.

My point is, where has this £25/30m valuation of Hazard come from?

He'll for a lot less, in my opinion.

won't cost that IMO, can see between 15 - 20 max, with some clauses and add ons thrown in there.

strange, people are claiming there's no chance we'll get him (which is wrong imo opinion), while others are insisting he's on his way (which is also wrong imo opinion).

let's just see what happens. there's a lot of life to live between now and feb 1.

At this point in his career even that seems very high but he could easily be worth twice that much in next 3-4 years if he continues to develop and progress as many are projecting.

Lille turned down a £17m for him from Lyon IIRC. He will of course cost a few more millions than that.

If you want a player that is so hyped up as Hazard then you need to break the bank to get him.

Lille would probably laugh at a £20m bid. How much would clubs like Real, Barcelona, Inter, Bayern, Man C and so on be prepared to pay to get him?

If Lille want £30m+ then they will get that IMO. If we don't are prepared to pay that then we have no chance to sign him.

Well the way to do transfers such as this would be a smaller fee, say £10m up front (which would likely be staggered over a couple of seasons anyway), with heavy add-ons bringing the potential fee around the £25m mark if everything hits. Lower the risk but suits both parties that way.

Don't think many teams pay a full fee straight up unless your owned by rich Arabs.

I don't think the hype surrounding hiim is quite as big as some are suggesting, Arn especially. I very much doubt people will be bidding over £30m for him.

He will never choose us ahead of the other teams interested in him. We are simply not an attractive option without CL football and with the potential departures of some big names if we miss out again next season is going to mean things could get a lot worse before getting better.

Sadly, I think you're right. If we could have stolen a march on our rivals by putting in a large bid in January then maybe. But now he's said he's staying till at least the summer. Nah, just can't see it.

N'Zogbia would be a good should for us. Young, direct winger, not too long left on his contract, wants to leave.
