Not that you're necessarily wrong, but this reads like a Roy Hodgson interview. Talk about dampening expectations.

I still think we have a little more clout and pulling power about us than some on here think, even accounting for our league position.

Liverpool is still a big name and I wouldn't rule out him picking us over the other clubs interested in him, unless its Barca or Real.

We should at least be making attempts to sign players like this without giving up hope before we've even bid surely?

      ****ing hell. God help me.

Yes we are still Liverpool but in the cold light of day if you were a young up an coming player would you choose an established CL team and the chance to work under a Manager like Mourinho, Benitez or Wenger ahead of the opportunity to work with Hodgson in the Europa (if we are lucky)?

Until Hodgson is gone the place stinks and I am sorry but that is the way it is. The euphoria of the takeover seems like a million years ago.

Yeah I totally get where you're coming from, I just don't think it's quite time to throw the towel in just yet.

Hazard or any other top talent would be nuts to come to LFC at this juncture, 10th in the premier league with several unhappy players is not an enticing place to come to.

Maybe not but we are still L4 and happy or unhappy we still have 3 world class players that Hazard will have something to learn from.

Also don't forget he played against us and felt the atmosphere and fans at Anfield last year and that kind of experience cannot be forgotten and could certainly play the deciding role in the recruitment process.

To be honest i just can't see Reina and especially Torres being here next season. And IMO champs league football is key to attracting the best players, well that and massive money

We have neither and LFC is not the club it used to be, we are not feared and we can no longer compete with the big boys on or off the field.

I'd love to think a player would recognise that, although we are a club very much in transition at the moment, we are still one of the biggest clubs in the world and have such a history of success and a proud tradition. I'd love to think that but its rare these days, players today see money, playing at the highest level and immediate success. I just can't see a top player coming to us and being happy to wait a few years in the hope that maybe we might be contenders at some point in then near future, when other clubs can offer that to them right now.

                That's the key for me.

There are only few clubs in the world that have had our success over the years (and the rich history as us) and without the doubt the best fans and if that is not enough of a reason for him or it is all about the money then he should not come. I'm ok with that.

Playing for LFC was and it still should be a highlight of someone's career.

We will bounce back and yes we need to rebuild and yes at the moment we are not contending at all fronts but if players can sense that the new owners are all about winning (and they claim they are) there is no reason to think that future prospects like Eden would not be attracted to join us.

and while players want CL sometimes they are prepared to wait a season or two if there's an 'interesting project' to join.

I think he has a cool name though. that probably adds at least 5million.

                          Can't argue with that.

'Eden, Eden, when you get the round thing, knock it back to Carra and he'll hoof up into a corner for the Spanish lad to run after, pointlessly and you'll soon see us up to 9th and don't worry, you'll get to play in some big games, we've got Hereford in the League Cup on Tuesday night!'

Well at least if he does some how join us with all the potential suitors and money thrown at him, he will be here because we are LFC and we do have a proud and successful history.

I dunno its hard to be positive about signing this type of talent when your team lies 10th in the league.

Beckenbaur, Pele and Cruyff all had exceptional world cups and were global names. Kenny missed out due to being Scotish and then the post-hysel ban. It's amazing how few people know who George Best was outside of our shores.

Chelsea pip Arsenal and Liverpool in making first approach for Lille sensation Eden Hazard

                                EXCLUSIVE

Chelsea have put down a marker in the chase for Eden Hazard after it emerged they have already tested Lille's resolve over hanging on to Europe's most wanted teenager.

Sources close to the 19-year old wing sensation claim he struck a deal with Lille president Michel Seydoux over his immediate future after Chelsea made an approach for him in the summer.

After rejecting Chelsea's bid, Seydoux promised to look favourably on any subsequent offers at the end of the season, provided Hazard stayed put and tried to help them win their first French League title in 57 years.

Hazard went along with the agreement and has become a target for leading clubs across Europe after inspiring Lille to their best season in living memory.

They had top spot to themselves in France until a 1-1 draw at Bordeaux on Saturday allowed Marseille to overhaul them on goal difference, with their 4-0 win over Montpellier.

Even then, Hazard, whose form has been closely monitored by Liverpool scouts and even manager Roy Hodgson in recent weeks, almost snatched victory with a mazy run near the end.

Zinedine Zidane has done his best to push the Belgium flyer towards Real Madrid, but there are clear signs he could just as easily end up in the Premier League, following news of Chelsea's move and his long-standing admiration for Arsenal.

'For all the interest in him, Chelsea are the only ones who have made an approach,' said a source.

'He has agreed with the president that he will not leave in the January window, but something may well happen at the end of the season.

'Of course, Real Madrid would be an attractive proposition, but Eden really likes Arsenal's style of play under Arsene Wenger.

'There is even something of Sami Nasri about him. He can play on either flank or through the middle, and he has great pace and technique. Arsenal would suit him perfectly.'
