Fifa may be dodgy but the English played the same game to buy votes. Russia just played it harder.

England sent the team to Trinidad for a friendly just to try to buy the caribean vote and also arranged a friendly in thailand (now cancelled) in the hope of buying that vote.

Don't forget the not insignificant offer (now withdrawn like a bitch) of hotel expenses, wining and dining etc etc, for the FIFA executive committee during their stay for the 2012 Olympics.
Its naive to think that England's bid didn't include the usual "platitudes" that all the bidders offer - just some offer a lot more than most in the long run.
In case anyone was in any doubt..........the only ones feigning ignorance of how the game works, is the "bad losers" as Sepp puts it.

Whether or not there's equivalence there (and I doubt it - as you admit, Russia were willing to be more corrupt), the fact is there is clearly a case that FIFA's bidding processes were unnecessary and misleading. If it had been made clear that 'emerging nations' would be favoured then it would have been more transparent and fairer.

I agree on that point that it was unfair because they intended to award the WC's to countries who hadn't hosted it before and promised developement rather than those ready and established
