Bolton boss Owen Coyle has signed central defender David Wheater from Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

The 23-year-old is believed to have made the move for an initial £2.3m with a further £1.5m based on appearances.

"I met with the manager and we had a good chat about football," former England Under-21 international Wheater told the Bolton website.

"I had a look around the facilities and it was a really easy decision to make."

Wheater looked to have a lot of potential a couple of years ago. It will be interesting to see what Coyle could do with him.

He did, and then went rapidly downhill. Saw him a 1st round League Cup game back in August, albeit at a League Two side, and he was supremely dominant.

He will be a pheom this season, score **** loads of goals they will then sign him in ths summer but will also sign another 30m+ striker which will put adebayor's nose out of joint and he will be back in the premiership at christmas
