The sad truth is that in years to come, the sports writers of the future, when commentating on Liverpool's history, will be saying stuff like - "and so the club striving to regain its position released Rafael Benitez and turned to the experienced Roy Hodgson"

They can say what ever they want to say but the truth is that we had incompetent leadership with Purslow at the time and only in those circumstances Roy could ever gotten the job (over Kenny).

Reality is Roy was out of his depth, which many were aware from the get go except the ones in charge of our club, we unfortunately had to pay the ultimate price to have him engraved permanently into our history...

West Bromwich Albion manager Roy Hodgson's job could be in jeopardy if his side lose at Wolves

Roy Hodgson will celebrate the first anniversary of his tenure at West Bromwich Albion this Saturday.

Twenty four hours later, the Albion head coach may be less inclined to revelry after a bitter feud with the local enemy at Molineux. It will be a Black Sunday in the Black Country for Hodgson should Wolverhampton Wanderers prevail.

Of course, defeat to the Old Gold may not elicit Hodgson’s immediate departure but as West Bromwich Albion fans reflect on his year in charge, a damaging loss is certain to hasten it.

At a club traditionally commuting from the second to the top tier of the domestic game and back again, Hodgson’s impact following his arrival is part of the Albion folklore, guiding the side to an impressive finishing position halfway in the table.

But this eighth home defeat of the current season to an enterprising Swansea City serves only to highlight a degree of decline since those heady days in May.

“We raised expectations and the only way we can change things is to get a win,” Hodgson said, targeting 14 points until the end of the season to attain the perceived salvation mark of 40 points.

A year ago, Roberto Di Matteo’s Albion also languished perilously close to the relegation places before a defeat to Manchester City cost him his job.

As now, Albion had 26 points then but had won seven of their home games compared with the humble two Hogdson’s team has managed.

“It is becoming a monkey on our back that we have to get rid of,” admitted Albion central defender Gareth McAuley. “There is no particular reason I can think of. It is just not going for us. We have to be strong enough ourselves. You don’t play at this level if you are weak-minded. Hopefully we can turn things around because it is not good enough.”

The rise of Swansea City to the mid-table security that Albion covet doubtless will be cemented by Gylfi Sigurdsson, their on-loan signing from Hoffenheim. His third game for his old Reading manager Brendan Rodgers was a masterclass of composure on the frosted Hawthorns surface.

Sigurdsson produced a headed clearance off the line in the first half before a smart finish brought his first Premier League goal just a minute after Marc-Antoine Fortune’s left-foot effort had secured Albion the lead. Five minutes later, the Iceland player’s inviting low centre was converted by Danny Graham at the near post, after of one of Swansea’s many slick moves.

Evidently the temperature drop suited the Icelander though he has played in worse. “Last year against Stuttgart for Hoffenheim it was minus 15 or 20,” he said. “The Brazilians wore tights. Even I wore gloves.”

Roy Hodgson thinks it's "arrogant" to rule yourself in or out of the England job, but would like to make it clear he's "very interested".

Fair to say Roy Hodgson is not jumping on the 'give it to Harry' bandwagon ...

Roy's going all out for this one. No more Mr Nice Guy, his pursuit of this job is going to be welentless.

                    From the Fiver:

Redknapp will have to make a decision sooner or later, as most observers agree he'll be offered the job by the FA soon enough (although the Fiver is keeping a wary eye on West Brom chancer Peter Principle, a 14-1 shot who clearly knows the best way to press flesh and influence important people, if the ludicrously easy ride he gets from chairmen and journalists alike, despite achieving the square root of eff all since winning the pan-Scandinavian Shippams Paste Platter in 1978, is anything to go by).

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
