If Skrtel can put some consistent performances in he would be more then good enough. He was immense yesterday.

The next cock up always seems to be around the corner with him though.

There was a right midfield player we had whos doing well at his new club.

But yeah, I do agree with majority of what you said
You`re probably thinking of Adam Hammill, who`s doing well for Barsnley.
He`s being linked with several PL clubs, but not any big ones.

That, plus he's supposed to be the aerially dominant one of the two CBs, and he's actually not that great in the air. Maybe Steve Clarke can sort him out, but if not, its a position that needs looking at.

At the moment, I reckon our best defensive back four looks like:

          Kelly----Carra/Skrtel----Agger----Aurelio
TO be a top side again we need to sort out this position. Neither are good enough (anymore) to be first choice in a solid defense.
          I agree.
No! I am NOT in denial!

This is the time to blood young players. It was in a similar tranistional periods that Fowler, Redknapp, McManaman, Carra, Gerrard and Owen all developed. One could agrue we're in transition for 20+ years.

Kelly seems to be in the team now which he deserves. Ngog is getting more of a run now as well and Shelvy seems to have taken Kennys eye. If Pacheco is going to flurish under anybody it will be Kenny. Important time for him.

The club have managed Kelly's development really well. He'll be a great centre back soon. Learning his trade and familiarising himself with new surroundings at full back is wise. I'd give him a go at centre back towards the end of this season depending on how things are going. I'd like to see him allowed up for corners as I seen him score a couple of headers before. No point sending Skrtel up there to duck out of it.

Kelly's a must starter in the Derby.

Totally agree with the first point - we need to sort our the main man at the back, have carra as cover and move skrtel on.

But i have also highlighted the other two positions....Agger is a must if we can get him and keep him fit, but if not well we need a similar player to replace hi,

Aurelio - for me, will never be fit tho - i'd be looking to improve left back as well

He's so very comfortable and efficient. Utterly no-nonsense, doesnt **** about, just quietly does the job and added a few lovely marauding runs down the right today

Not entirely sure i'm keen on him letting his team mates jizz on his shirt though.

He's hard as nails as well. That moment when he landed on his shoulder looked painful as ****, but after a brief moment on the floor he was up and just getting on with it.

I think Lecter mentioned this on another thread, but when you consider his recent performances, including the one against Chelsea - are there many better right backs playing in the Premier League at the moment? If any?

He's actually not bad going forward either. That run today where he skimmed a midfielder and then left Baines for dead before putting a decent ball into a dangerous area was quality.

Decent going forward and solid at the back, that's the way a full back should be for me. Looking like he's nailing down that right back spot under Kenny too.

Nah, cant think of any off the top of my head.

It's all too early though, or so my logical, rational side of the brain is telling me

Meh to rationality. He's been elevated to my second favourite player after Pepe
