Speaking of all of our right backs, Flanagan has regressed so so far. When he first came in the season before last, he seemed like he was going to be a good first team player and when he came in vs Mansfield he was poor.

Its a shame kellys not left footed because injuries apart, he could have had the left hand side sewn up for us.
Hasn't he had at least two years out with injury though?

Really not sure that being left footed is a 100% necessity for a left back. Not that I think Kelly is good enough there. A player like Johnson though is fine.

What did he do wrong bar get booked?

He came on when the team was on the back foot and he was unlikely gonna steady things at the back. Had a good wee run forward that he just fluffed at the last minute in the box. Of all our young RB's he's the only decent one going forward, excluding maybe McLaughlin who hasn't turned out for the first team yet.

Still think he's too good for the reserves and needs a decent loan move.

He just seemed really rash especially jumping into tackles, just what I saw of him.

Aye, he does do that. I said to my mate that despite only coming on with a few minutes left he'll get himself booked for a crunching tackle.

                  Fuuuuccck off.

Being the Mail, of course it can be bull****, being footballers, of course it can be an agent's way of getting demands out there.

Done nothing to warrant such a salary so far in his career...........I know he's suffered a couple injuries etc, but he's not Darren Anderton - there's no pay rises for not being available to play.

Smacks of the stories being put about by the press of Sterlings wage demands, I'll take this with a pinch of salt based on it being a) the mail b) he's out with an injury.

It's either a starting point for negotiations by his agent or the Mail talking ****, both are equally likely IMO. Either way it's a non-story like the one about Sterling's contract earlier in the season.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Yup, it's the Mail. I'm sure it's safe to file this under 'bull****'. £45k indeed ffs.

If it ends up too be true then it will be bye bye Martin as he has done nothing to merit that sort of wage and won't be getting it here IMO. We should offer him a £30k deal with incentives to increase it IF he starts too perform.

I would expect us to do what we (reportedly) did in Sterling's case: a 'reduced' wage but with more if he plays, that seems to be the way we are wanting to go.

Liverpool defender Martin Kelly signs long-term deal at Anfield as potential successor to Jamie Carragher

A day after Jamie Carragher announced his imminent retirement, Liverpool have moved to secure the future of one of his possible successors.

Defender Martin Kelly has today signed a new long-term deal at Anfield, ending several weeks of negotiation with the Academy graduate.

The 22-year-old, who broke into the senior England squad last season, is currently out with a knee injury but is seen as a potential mainstay of Brendan Rodgers’ defence in the future.

It is a timely deal for Liverpool as attention will naturally shift towards how to fill the void left by Carragher’s retirement in the summer.

Rodgers has spoken of the need to keep and introduce as many local youngsters at Anfield as possible, and Kelly has already made swift progress since making his debut in 2009. Only injury has prevented him from being more fully established in the starting eleven.

Kelly hasn’t featured for the first team since September when he suffered cruciate damage against Manchester United, but it is hoped he will return before the end of the season.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
