my mate from uni has played against him!!! funny as ****, i hadn't seen him in years, he was my captain of the team i was player/manager for in uni - phones me up out the blue....guess waht - i've just played against chris waddle!!!

he said he was ****ing intense, my mate fancied himself as tough tackling centre mid, so first opportunity went across to snap and bang....got flatenned as waddle seen it coming and stood his ground. - waddle played centre mid, then moved to centre back, won everything in the air, never broke into anything more than a light jog, never gave the ball away, made two and scored a free kick from 30 yards

my mates team got battered but was buzzing - apparently he was a top bloke and the other lads in waddles team says he basically finances the club - sorts out kits, training kits, balls etc.

good to see someone who plays because he likes it.

Ben Sheppard is the 'safe pair of hands' replacing Richard Keys at Sky

Ben Shephard has been chosen to replace Richard Keys as Sky Sports' main football anchor.

The 36-year-old, who joined Sky Sports in a reported £495,000-a-year deal last July from GMTV, is expected to take on the role at the start of the next football season.

The father of two is seen as a safe pair of hands and key to plans for a more family-friendly image following the exit of Keys and Andy Gray after outrage at their sexist banter.

A Sky Sports spokesperson said: 'No decision has been made for next season.'

No replacement for Gray has been confirmed but it is understood former player Jamie Redknapp will have a bigger role.
