What game am I remembering then? I remember distinctly him putting in a tackle in front of the Kop and them singing his name.

In what way was he not given a fair crack?Originally posted by ronanm View PostHe wasn't given a fair crack but am glad to see the back of him. In fairness, he has acted with dignity throughout this and a lot of players could learn from his behaviour. I hope he goes on to do well at West Ham.

He didn't score in that game.Originally posted by Alex View PostHe had an absolute stormer for us against Chelsea at the back end of last season. Was chasing down everything and got a goal too I think. I thought at that point he had a chance to make it.
Too often he didn't chase anything down. Just wandered aimlessly putting in minimal effort. That was his fault. Overall he was one of the laziest players I have seen for us.

He scored a really nice goal, good footwork too.Originally posted by Alex View PostHe had an absolute stormer for us against Chelsea at the back end of last season. Was chasing down everything and got a goal too I think. I thought at that point he had a chance to make it.
I still don't think he'd make it in a Rodgers system.

Bemuses me that too, what is he did that's so bad ?Originally posted by Norbs View PostI think it's more fashionable to call him 'Ben Drew' these days, and I can't understand the grief he's getting on a football forum
So he doesn't live up to some peoples expectations, or isn't their type of football player, not his fault.

Yes, I didn't get it like that though. Maybe I was the only one being stupid.Originally posted by Norbs View PostIIRC it was mentioned or at least suggested at the time, Newcastle held us to ransom and we passed it again the chain
:candle: for Roman Abramovich.
Well, me and FSG. It was probably a mistake in how it affected perceptions both of the player and of the club's willingness to pay inflated fees. But FSG's mistake wasn't that big and the damage isn't lasting.
If we "really" paid £20m for Carroll and West Ham are paying £15m-17m then losing about £3m-£5m on him seems about right given bigger clubs pay a premium and he can be said to have failed with us.

Completely forgot he had a couple of sub appearances last season.

I wish you'd put it all like that about two years ago though. It might have saved a lot of hassle on here.

Plan ****ing B is almost as bad as this "beefy enforcer" that we must sign to run around the middle of the park.
