Andy Carroll is ahead of schedule in his injury comeback - and could even make a dramatic return to action this weekend.
Britain's most expensive player has yet to make his Liverpool debut, after arriving at Anfield on deadline day with a thigh injury.
But his rehabilitation has gone well, and the medical team at the Merseyside club believe the striker has an outside chance of making the bench when Liverpool visit West Ham on Sunday.
It would be a massive boost for the Reds, who are still hopeful of making a late run on a Champions' League place, after the arrival of new boss Kenny Dalglish galvanised the club.
Carroll will form a new partnership with Liverpool's other deadline day signing Luis Suarez, and if the pair hit it off, then they could provide the fire power to still make the current top four nervous.
The centre forward returned to training 10 days ago, and has now joined in with the rest of the squad, as he steps up his comeback from the problem he picked up at Newcastle.
Striker Dirk Kuyt meanwhile, revealed yesterday that negotiations over a new contract are at an advanced stage, after he pledged his future to the Anfield club.
"My contract has one more season to go after this but there are things happening. We have had some talks and I can only say it looks positive," he explained.
"I feel at home in Liverpool and I don?t want to leave here. It has been a difficult time for everyone at the club with the changes that have happened since last summer, but now I can sense something good is happening. I think Liverpool are on the way back."Like blood on iron

Cant see him playing this weekend. Maybe the last 20mins of the United match. Loving the pics of him back in training though!

I'm so excited. And I just cant hide it. I'm about to loose control and I think I like it.

Home Liverpool FC Liverpool FC News Liverpool FC latest: Record signing Andy Carroll edges nearer debut
by Ian Doyle, Liverpool Daily Post
Feb 22 2011
ANDY CARROLL has taken a step closer to making his Liverpool debut – as Luis Suarez was given a rousing send-off by his former colleagues.
Carroll trained with his new team-mates for the first time at Melwood yesterday since becoming the most expensive signing in the Anfield outfit’s history when completing a £35million move from Newcastle United on transfer deadline day last month.
The 22-year-old joined in with the rest of the squad on routines but was held back from taking part in any contact training.
It further allayed speculation the striker could miss the remainder of the season having not played since December 28 due to a thigh problem.
Carroll travelled with Liverpool to the Czech Republic for their European tie against Sparta Prague last week as a team-bonding exercise.
And although the striker remains determined to be available for the clash against Manchester United on Sunday week, a more likely comeback date would be the next round of the Europa League on March 10, should Kenny Dalglish’s men progress.
Carroll’s new strike partner, £22.75m man Suarez, returned to ex-club Ajax at the weekend to say an official goodbye to his old colleagues.
The striker underwent a lap of honour on Sunday after the 1-0 win over VVV-Venlo, and was even serenaded by Dutch supporters by a rendition of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.
Suarez was then given a tribute by Ajax assistant coach Danny Blind, who said: “You came to us as a young player with long hair, but you grew with us. You became a top scorer, captain, and father.
“It’s time for a new step, although we regret to see you go. We would have loved to keep you with us for longer. One statistic says it all: 111 goals for Ajax in 159 games.”
Suarez is likely to start Sunday’s Premier League trip to West Ham United given his ineligibility for Liverpool’s Europa League campaign, which continues with the return leg against Sparta on Thursday at Anfield

Not sure being a friend first is the best way to do it, however Kenny is different.

Know what you mean, but maybe strictness alone won't work with a lad like Carroll, so Kenny is adding friendship to the equasion, and the added responsibility of not letting a real friend and manager down will be part of what he's attempting to instill in the lad.Originally posted by Tee View Post
