I think the whole thing is a pointless sideshow. Few other countries put the daft emphasis on a captain. To me it's a sign that we haven't embraced the necessity of working as a team and the importance of tactical unity. Along with the fact that Terry embodies the very worst of the English ideal of trying harder not meaning attempting to make better balls but instead running about more and jumping pointlessly into more challenges.

To be honest I'm not suprised by this, in fact I wouldn't be suprised if this was planned all along. The media/public outcry resulted in him being stripped of the captaincy, not Capello, now all the heat has died down no one really cares enough for it to be an issue.
