Wayne Rooney Ban - Soccer Saturday debate

Watching Soccer Saturday and my God Charlie Nicholas talks complete cock custard, trying to defend Shreks swearing down the camera against Wham.

I mean footballers swear on the pitch all the time and picked up by cameras but to do it like Rooney did it is just crazy and deserved a ban

Some sensible comments from Le Tiss though on this!

No defence for him on football first, Rafa and Claridge both said he was out of order.

I dont agree with what Nicholas said, but in fairness, he wasnt defending what Rooney did, he was just saying that he didnt think it should've resulted in a ban. As i say, i disagree with him.

Which is quite correct - no defence whatsoever for that, all footballers swear but the manner in how he did it is inexcusable.

Only Charlie Nicholas defending him to be fair, Le Tiss had a pop at bacon face saying how can he say anything to Rooney about respect whilst he's serving a ban for having none himself!

I think the FA messed up here with what they banned him for, should have been bringing the game in disrepute instead of use of foul and abusive langauge.

Still regardless the moron deserved a ban and should have been lengthened for wasting time contesting it.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

              Good point - wrong charge.
              .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

                Law 12 -

A player, substitute or substituted player is sent off if he commits any of the
                following ... offences:

                • using offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures

The ref, Lee Mason said that he had seen this Rooney would have been sent off. As he didn't, diciplinary action can and should be taken retrospectively.

As it's a straight red card, but not dangerous play, a two match ban seems correct.

So are the officials now going to send players off who swear or shout abuse at them then? Because as far as I can see only Rooney and Mascherano a couple of years ago seem to have been punished for anything like this, but you clearly see players swearing at referees most weeks in the Premiership.

There isn't a single other player in any of the top leagues that behaves as bad on the pitch as Rooney, not a single one.

I doubt that you will find one ever that behaved as bad on the pitch. He is simply a disgrace. You could find a case to send him off in almost every game he played the last few years.

His swearing isn't exactly anything new. He has done it in the referees face for years without punishment. He got away with it because he is Rooney.

I do hope that the FA continue to punish behaviour like this.

If someone criticize a referee after the game then he shouldn't be punished for it as long as the referees don't need to answer any questions after the games. It is a big difference when you swear and behave like Rooney do in almost every game on the pitch.

His sponsors are getting tired of him and don't want to be connected with a Scum like him. Coca Cola dropped him and others will probably do the same if he don't start to behave better.

It's the manner of Rooney swearing that has caused the issue here, as you said players swear all the time and it's caught on camera but he deliberately swore at the camera.

Why I think it should have been a "brought the game into disrepute" charge.

In fairness he (Rooney) amongst others swears aggressively at referees most weeks, but this goes unpunished, which is a joke IMO

                              true, should be stamped out.

thing is what he did was so blatant, there is no way he should have got away with it.
