    French Federation suspended technical director

The French Football Federation's National Technical Director Francois Blaquart has been suspended amid a row over an alleged project to enforce racial quotas in youth academies, Sports Minister Chantal Jouanno said on Saturday.

"Sports Minister Chantal Jouanno and FFF president Fernand Duchaussoy have decided to suspend immediately National Technical Director Francois Blaquart pending the conclusions of an investigation led by the FFF and the IGJS (General Inspection of Youth and Sports)," Jouanno said in a statement.

On Thursday, French investigative website Mediapart, citing sources within the FFF, claimed that Blaquart proposed to enforce racial quotas to limit the number of players of black or Arab origin in youth academies.

    Unbelievable
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Disgraceful, do they forget who helped take them to the very top?

Indeed. To do so is almost racist.

I think what cream was trying to say is that white people are racist.

Jingoism is a part of being French. The preservation of frenchness be it language, art or culture is an endemic condition. Is it racist in the typical sense? I'd say not.

                          It is institutionalised?

If it is discriminatory, I'd say it is racist. There is no argument which can justify it legitimately.
                          Oh I don't know.

There's very little detail here, but in principle an idea that x% of your youth academy should be French isn't so far removed from the senior squad rules or other positive descrimination quotas for large employers across Europe. Discrimination happens all the time, with insurance being the typical example.

I would be amazed if the proposal was worded to limit Black and Arab youths specifically, rather to keep a quota for french citizens. If it was worded that way, then he's a dick, but i'd be amazed if its specifically about excluding certain ethnicities rather than protecting a portion of the opportunities for the indigenous population, which when you take bleating ******ism out of the equation is entirely sensible.

Saw a bit about this on Skysports news this morning

Basically the French want to put something in place to stop players switching nationalities after they have been trained in the academies and played youth football for France.

Laurent Blanc is likely to get the boot too as he was involved in the meeting and denied that any report existed, it was later leaked on a website.

                              Long article about it here
