Imagine if these owners had come in after we had finished second....... Players would be falling over themselves to join us, instead of fluttering their eyelids at us so they get attention from elsewhere.

That's fair enough. I have a sneaking suspicion we will get Mata though, I think he's going to do a Suarez, and do everything he can to move here. We'll see

I think it good to not get your hopes up, and to remain skeptical. But as far as Mata goes, I don't see why it's all that impossible. Aguero is not going happen, but Mata... we could afford him. Valencia need the money.

I think the biggest question mark is over what role he would play in the team. We're crying out for genuine width and based on what Ive been reading on here, he's not really a winger.

So perhaps that's why the rumours have died down a little bit. I've got my fingers crossed anyway.

Oh, you mean when i said he'd come if we got new owners? And when he then effectively said the same thing in an interview, where he said he couldnt go to Liverpool for one reason (eg, Hicks and Gillett)?

I really wasn't trying to piss you off mate.

But yeah, that's what I was talking about. He never specified Hicks and Gillett were the reason. In fact, I really don't think it is that. In that interview he said he would consider Spurs, Everton (!!!) and Arsenal. But never Liverpool. He could have said something along the lines of, 'in the future, maybe.' 'Or in different circumstances perhaps.' He said he'd never manage us. Seems to me there's a bigger reason than the previous owners.

In Carragher's book he said that Mourinho was supposed to be a Liverpool fan. I wonder if it's something to do with that - as crazy as it sounds.
