Quite right too, Dave. What about Freddie Adu? We could fit him in too. He could compete with Diouf, Baird and Long as our most pointless signing ever!

Still, it add variety to the Kevin Doyle jizzfest that pops up every now and then.
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

        45m euro's = £39m

Lets say we sold the following players:-

        Aquilani (15m euros = £13m) Milan/Juventus
Cole £6m to QPR or Spurs
        Jovanovic = £3m?
        Ngog = £6m?
Poulsen = £3m back to Denmark?

Selling those 5 would raise £31m of the £39m. Lets say FSG give us an additional £40m to spend in the summer we would have £32m left to spend and we would have reduced our wage bill - I can't see Aguero earning more than those 4/5 COMBINED! especially considering Cole is on £90k a week!

Also, Cole, Jovanovic, Ngog and Poulsen have combined played less league minutes that Reina this season...
it doesnt work that way. very few transfers involve all the money up front

Where is Lecter when you need him

Take Aqualini (and I'm making these numbers up to illustrate the example) - the total value of the transfer to us was around 16m. We paid something like 5 up front and the rest was installments/progress/games played etc etc

So by this stage we've probably only paid a fraction of the total transfer value

Now if we sell him for 13m, that wont be all up front (cause then we may have made a sizeable profit!). We might only get 4m and we cant take the risk buying a 10m player assuming we'll get the 13m up front because that money has not been realised

Shane Long would be better than the ineffective Ngog. Would all depend on cost though.

Well in that case surely we should be looking at Bothryd from Cardiff. Available on a free, proven at Championship Level, England International and not Ngog (given that the fact he's not Ngog seems to be the only realistic purpose for promoting a signing like Shane Long).

I was waiting for an opportunity to use that quote about LJS.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

IF we were to sell Aquilani we would have to settle any outstanding installments in full (unless they were conditional of appearances / performances etc..)

Secondly if we sell a player for a fixed sum (without add-ons etc..) then we would receive that amount in full if they were subsequently to sell the player even if the payment was structured in installment

The structure of transfer budgets is complex and involves not just looking at this year but also future ones because as you say installments mean that you could be affecting budgets going forward

i am assuming 4-2-3-1 but the attack would be:

                        carroll

                        aguero meireles suarez

                        lucas gerrard

so no wingers then: hopefully carroll will fit in this system!

this formation will destroy defences, let's hope that this is a dream come true.

Now that would be a title winning squad - problem there is you'd need Man City type investment to get there!

Probably talking about £100m worth of signings there, optimistically that would be ~£70m net spend, how realistic is that? Personally I can't see that, I imagine we'd spend about £40-50m net, not £70-80m.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

                                only for aguero though...

                                Hazard £20m ?
                                Young £15m ?
                                A top centre half £10m ?
                                a top left back £10m ?
                                centre mid £15m?

Thats what we should be aiming for imo - £70m ish spend recouping up to £20m from sales.

Just have to keep ngog for now and then sign Aguero in January transfer window
