Not really. Take for instance the Ladies team - after the recent campaigning we've already started to implement Arn's masterplan.Originally posted by MrMichael View PostArn, I mean this in the nicest possible way, but you truly are bat**** mental mate

I also think that FSG can spot a good business opportunity when they see one and Aguero is a good business opportunity because as I said, we would earn a lot of money on and off the pitch thanks to him.
Rooney would be second in shirt sales very quickly if we signed Aguero.Stop the cyberhate

from now on I will skip talking about our finances. That is a promise and will save myself from looking like a

It is possible to be optimistic while still remaining realistic mate. I'm not trying to have a go at you, but each post you make in this thread takes so many logic leaps it makes me dizzy.Originally posted by Arn View PostIf being optimistic is being mental then that is what I'm.
I only happen to think that FSG want us to challenge for the title this season and not only a top four place. It really isn't their style to be happy with a top four place. They want to win. That is their style.
If we want to challenge for the title this season the we need to sign another superstar striker plus a new central defender of course.
Your statements re. shirt sales etc above are so divorced from reality as to be absurd. You both massively overrate Aguero, the role of "superstars" in a team in general, and also our current status as a club. We're a big club, no doubt, but we're really no different from a dozen other clubs minimum in Europe in terms of status right now for anyone who isn't a lifelong fan. Apart from us being the only ones not playing in European competition next year.
Honestly, optimism is a good thing, but have you ever heard the saying that the simplest explanation is usually the correct one?Last edited by MrMichael; 22-07-11, 09:59 AM.I could not dig, I dared not rob:

This is the only part I can find us struggling with, if we offer him this then others in the team would want to be on an even level of pay and they would be a slippery slope to be on in financial terms, unfortunately we don't have the endless supply of funds to compete with the likes of City and Chelsea when it comes to offering players crazy amounts in wagesOriginally posted by Arn View PostMatch his €45m buy-out clause and offer him around £100k/week after tax. Then we would really see if it is all about money.
If he then turn us down then **** him but it would force him to make a very difficult decision because we would be his best long term option football wise.
We could make him into a superstar. Something the other interested clubs won't be able to do if Real isn't interested. We could make him the biggest name out there when it comes down to shirt sales. Just as we did with Torres. We managed to rectify it, though, because it now says, "Cook" where it once said "Cock", and "Pass" where it once said "Piss", so it’s slightly less rude.

Lets look at the evidence just one second.Originally posted by Arn View PostI also think that FSG can spot a good business opportunity when they see one and Aguero is a good business opportunity because as I said, we would earn a lot of money on and off the pitch thanks to him.

I'm not aware of any specific figures regarding shirt sales, but these ones should include the money we made last year while Torres was still our player.

I've seen nothing to suggest that Aguero commands that sort of commercial clout. It would be interesting to know what the impact financially of big stars is - i.e. how much did we lose in terms of shirt sales when we sold Torres. Also, is there any reason to think Aguero would outsell Suarez say?Originally posted by Arn View PostI also think that FSG can spot a good business opportunity when they see one and Aguero is a good business opportunity because as I said, we would earn a lot of money on and off the pitch thanks to him.

On a side note here but I organised my nephew to buy a shirt recently when he was over in Liverpool for me. somehow he thought we wanted carroll on the back instead of Suarez. My lad, (aged 12) paid for another shirt with Suarez on it out of his own hard earned cash. He hopes Carroll will prove his worth but doesn't wear that any where near as much as the Suarez shirt.Originally posted by dww View PostI've seen nothing to suggest that Aguero commands that sort of commercial clout. sign him on a 5/6 year contractOriginally posted by Gaz View PostThis is the only part I can find us struggling with, if we offer him this then others in the team would want to be on an even level of pay and they would be a slippery slope to be on in financial terms, unfortunately we don't have the endless supply of funds to compete with the likes of City and Chelsea when it comes to offering players crazy amounts in wages
transfer = 40 million
Signing on fee = 7 million ( normal + 5million sweetener for the wage reduction
150k a week over 3 years = 22.5million
sell him to Real in 3 years for 50mlllion.
I am sure his shirt sales and sponsorship will cover the 20million shortfall.
