Strong, good in the air and good on the ball, with the abilty to pass it simply out of defence rather than hoofing it which often just gives the ball back to the opposition. They should also be able to play a reasonably high line with the position sense to play offside traps well rather than just having to sit deep.

ok, I shall rephrase......A fit Daniel Agger has everything required to be a top centre back.

I cant remember the last team that won the premiership with 2 old school defenders at the heart of their defence.
