Provided he came cheaply and we invested heavily elsewhere, then I wouldn’t have a problem with this.

We need midfield reinforcements for next year clearly, but if we spent a large portion of our budget on a specialist DM and went bargain hunting for a LB, CB or winger instead then I would be bitterly disappointed.

Our current midfield has stood up against the best in the division recently, so I don’t feel it needs a major overhaul, but if Barton could be brought in to add a bit of steel for particular games then I’d be happy enough.

I do think the rumour is a load of balls though and now wait on us being linked with Coloccini, Harper and Gutierrez.
