Kuyt would be more productive upfront as he is losing his pace, he is like wat 31 now? Joey has got a good cross on him, and is also proven to have a gd telepathy with andy carrol. Since its on a free, i feel its great value for money. unless of course we have mata, or hazard lined up to join us

I’ve seen no signs all that Kuyt is declining in any way as a player. If anything, after a good world cup and a strong finish to the season for us, I’d say the opposite.

My point was not about whether or not I’d sign Barton, but even if we did, Kuyt is still a much better player than him and all the other transfers we made this summer ATM.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

The current beatification is getting a little out of hand IMO. Sure, he didn't have to do it but it's hardly taken a lot of time, effort or money has it. Half a dozen ****ing tweets FGS. The daft cunt tweeted Collymore to get him to sign the petition and encourage his followers to do likewise only to be told that he(Stan) had already done both 24 hours earlier. Call me cynical but this is just part of this idiot's attempt to "reinvent" himself as some sort of deep thinking, compassionate intellectual. Along with the cool Smiths references, the cultural trips to Amsterdam and his Penguin paperback book of famous quotes. Surely this isn't fooling anyone?

Exactly what I wanted to say if I could manage to put a sentence together!

It's fooling me and to be honest he can be as earnest as he wants about subjects like this. If nothing else he's served to raise the profile in Newcastle and if he false enthusiasm gets even a few hundred people on board then who can complain.

Barton's flaws have largely been publically aired by journalists who have unavoidably been subjective in their views on him but the fact is that things like twitter allow people to present their views to a huge audience in the first person (albeit through only 140 words a shot). I'm willing to accept that he's being honest enough and he likes The Smiths, has read Orwell (although I'd be inclined to say that there is better Dystopian literature about than 1984) etc. And he can tweet as much as he likes about HJC and I'm not going to criticise him for it, which as a point of clarification I am happy to do with his past behaviour.

And with the same token you're also entitled to have your smug, self important attitude of moral one upmanship. Feel free to go straight to Heaven without passing go

Agree on the whole. I think he tries a bit too hard at times - the Nietzsche tweet for example - but there's nothing wrong with someone trying to better themselves. Also in a world where 99.9999% of footballers have never even heard of The Smiths, Orwell etc and couldn't give a flying **** about finding out about them, I take this as a good thing, a refreshing change. Good luck to him.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Nah, not really. Unfortunately my own past adventures are making the chances of any present actions embarrassing fairly slim. 'Remember when you did...' is being wheeled out far too much these days in my life

But I stand by what I said and you yourself did the hammering of the nail straight on to its head. He doesn't have to do it and if he wants to pick a cause to fight for and he's chosen this one then fair play to him. Muchas Respectos for Barton. I don't buy it. He's just a **** trying to dig himself out of a PR black hole.

I'm running the risk of sounding like a Barton apologist here so I'll be careful (mainly because with all the Sergio posters and the Copperfield posters in my flat I've no room to put up any Barton ones) but so what. Many worse people have launched more agressive PR offenses only to be taken to the nations heart before letting us all down again. The road to retribution is a road much travelled and, despite his over earnest attitude I see no reason why he shouldn't be allowed to go down it himself. Maybe he needs to meet some sort of unfortunate demise before he can be taken in to the nations heart as a misunderstood and tragic figure.

400,000 odd people follow him on twitter. There are a load of people interested (as an alternative to saying unoccupied) enough in his PR offensive to want to hear what he's got to say. Naturally, the fact that he only appears to have heard of 2 authors may make him a bit one dimensional to some but he's a hell of a lot more interested than Lil Michael Owen. Good luck to him.

Only Barton knows his true intentions for sure and it is fantastic to see the petition getting such wide publicity and support regardless of who brings it about. As for Barton, and it may be a character flaw on my part, but I don't forgive or forget easily. I just don't do this "Oh it was years ago, the past is in the past" stuff. Some of Barton's misdemeanours are shocking and IMO he's damned lucky not to have permanantly injured someone or worse.
