John Terry insists Roberto Di Matteo is in charge at Chelsea and that he has no say in first-team affairs at Stamford Bridge.

Terry was seen giving instructions from the touchline after being substituted in the 4-1 victory over Napoli in the Champions League, leading to speculation that the Chelsea captain and other senior members of the playing staff were in control.

But Terry is shocked by the suggestions and says Di Matteodeserves all the credit for the Blues' upturn in form.

"In response to comments suggesting that I think I'm the manager, I'd like to say Robbie has stepped up and been immense," the 31-year-old told the Evening Standard.

"I am Chelsea through and through whether I am on the pitch or off it. Had I still be on the pitch (against Napoli) I would have been saying the same things that I was from the bench.

"That is my role as captain of this club.

"Just because I have come off the pitch, it doesn't mean to say my mentality changes. People might see it in the wrong way, but I care about this football club - we all do - and Robbie and his backroom staff deserve full credit."

He comes across as a superficial cunt.

Calling his manager 'Robbie' is a blatant power play. He is the ultimate modern footballing ******, an open example of everything that is wrong in the game.

Be a good fooballer, and your club will forgive you almost anything short of murder.

See the example of the young Chav player dimissed for setting off a smoke bomb, quite trivial compared to shooting someone with a gun you've brought into work.

So people can read (non-biased) opinions on the appointment of a guy that could be our next manager.

So people can read what people thought of his time at Chelsea.

So people can read articles written during his time in England.

Is it really such a left-field bump?

I wouldn't have minded him as our boss BEFORE his stint at Chelsea. After what I've seen there, I have massive reservations. People forget he's really young at 34 even if he seems to have all the qualities of a successful manager. His appointment will still leave us with as many questions as when Kenny was still here.

I really hope we appoint him so I don't feel so stupid about buying one of these.

Might be wrong but I seem to remember a period where quite a few folk on here fell into one of two camps on the way things were going for him at Chelsea - half seemed to say the press were doing to him what they'd done to Rafa, the other half saying AVB had all the nasty traits Mourinho had and delighting in his failure. Obviously there were plenty that didn't think that way, but would be curious to know how events since may have changed people's minds. I think I was sat on the fence the whole time AVB was at Chelsea, never knew what to make of him.

looking back on my previous couple of posts here, I think its safe to say that my view hasn't really changed, which is that AVB wasn't trusted or backed by Roman which made his job impossible given the power base amongst chelsea's senior players.

Its not possible to judge how he would have performed without these constraints so am happy to ignore his stint at Chelsea from a football perspective, although hopefully his press dealings have taught him a lesson or two.

If we appointed him he needs a free hand, time/patience and money.
