can't help but feel we dodged a bullet there with him leaving when he did.

Apparently Kewell looked pretty decent today. It really sunk in for me that he is actually here when I saw him in the Melbourne kit in the picture. This cold be the biggest ever season for the A-League if it is marketed the right way and the product is as good as it is promising.

GCU look to be on the right track but this is the area that we've needed improvement the most. Community engagement has been really good this time but I'm not sure if it's too late for some.

A NEW ticketing initiative has been announced by Gold Coast United that will make attending Hyundai A-League matches at Skilled Park more affordable than ever.

In the Eastern Stand adults will be able to purchase general admission tickets for only $20.00 with children’s tickets just $5.00 (children under 14-years-old).

The $5.00 kid’s ticket also extends to all other categories around Skilled Park, making the game even more accessible to Gold Coast youngsters who want to watch their local team in the country’s top football competition.

“It’s apparent and there is evidence wherever you look that the Gold Coast region is still suffering from the effects of the financial crisis and there are families who are doing it tough,” said Gold Coast United CEO Clive Mensink.

“The entertainment dollar is harder to find and we wanted to provide an opportunity for everyone to come along and support their local team in the Hyundai A-League.

“We have a fantastic group of players this year and we are confident of another successful season. We want as many people as possible to be able to watch the team, and of course the players will benefit by having more support behind them at Skilled Park.

“The $5.00 children’s ticket is representative of our increased links with the grassroots of football on the Gold Coast and is great value. It provides an opportunity for all young football fans to come and watch their local heroes, along with helping us to establish a broader fan base for the future.

“Naturally, we want to encourage as many people as possible to support this initiative, support their club and support the game,” he said.

United skipper Michael Thwaite said he was thrilled with the ticketing initiative and looked forward to the football community throwing their support behind the team from day one of the new season.

“The Gold Coast community can help the team get off to a great start against Wellington Phoenix if they get behind us in numbers by taking advantage of these new ticket prices,” he said.

“The new season is coming up fast, we have a lot of new faces in the squad and it would be fantastic to see a lot of new faces in the crowd as well.

“Our fans have always been brilliant and for anyone who has not been to a match before this is a great incentive to start coming along to Skilled Park and enjoying some terrific football action,” he said.

Tickets for United’s opening fixture of the 2011/12 Hyundai A-League season against Wellington Phoenix at Skilled Park on Sunday 9 October (4.00pm kick-off) go on sale from 12.00pm today through the Ticketek website.

That is really good value! I can imagine you guys getting a decent crowd with prices like that and Kewell appearing in a game.

I hope so. Here's a good read from Foxsports about transfer dealings.

One of the good things about us having small crowds was we were able to park right outside in the members carpark which is great. They've just announced that all foundation members will be given VIP car park passes for the season. That's me sorted then plus a free ticket to the Roar match and the away match in Adelaide which I doubt I'll make but you never know. Maybe Harv will show a bit of hospitality and open the doors to his palace for us.

Branco Culina sacked as Coach of Newcastle before the season even starts and the owner is trying to terminate their Marquee player Jason Culina due to him being injured for the whole season. Not a good day for the Culina household but they'll be fine financially at least.

Oh yeah, only 3 days till the season kicks off.

I think they wanted rid of Jason and they bought him on the old man's say so . He possibly said something about it so they'll try to get rid of both. Sacking Jason I can understand. He's there marquee player and won't play this season so buying him out makes sense when your a millionaire like there owner is.

They announced it though on the day of the official A League unveiling

You'd have to think that this is their best year to win over neutrals. With the Titans in the NRL and the Suns in the AFL propping up the ladder you'd like to think that some of those fans may look around and see what else is on offer........ either that or find out what the odds for a Gold Coast Wooden Spoon trifecta
"That's how I found myself on the Kop that day I had my blue-and-white scarf safely tucked away inside my coat as I listened to Liverpool songs and swayed with the masses.

Then City scored and I screeched and this big bloke, a Liverpool supporter, made towards me and I thought he was going to throttle me. But he just pulled my scarf from under my coat so it lay on the outside, and said: "You should always be proud of your colours, lad."
