I saw a video from Goldbridge on this, he was saying that the 1 year deal makes no sense other than if they think the dip in form is because of the uncertainty around Guardiola, by him signing a new contract it removes that uncertainty and gets them back to form, before he leaves at the end of the season, as next season would put them back in same position.
