Typical Guardiola trying to change the rules to suit himself.

Guardiola says that City will try convince the EFL to change their regulations. He added: "Hopefully we can convince the Carabao Cup that Marc [Guehi] can play the final. I don't understand why he cannot play the final," Guardiola said.

"You buy a player for a lot of money and he is not able to play for a rule I don't understand. Hopefully they can change it. Antoine [Semenyo] arrived before the first [game] so could play. And now it's the final. Why should he [Guehi] not play? Why not? We pay his salary, he is our player," Guardiola added.

"I said to the club, they have to ask, definitely. I don't understand the reason why he cannot play in the final in March, when I have been here for a long time. The rules to buy a player depends on Fifa, Uefa, the Premier League who say, OK the transfer window is open, when you buy a player you have to play, no? It's logic. Of course we are going to try to ask [for] him to play. Pure logic.

I actually agree with him on this one. The fact that Semenyo can play in the final and Guehi can’t makes no sense.

I understand him having to miss the semi's, as he was bought after the first leg. But it's a new round now (ok it happens to be a final, but the point still stands) so he should be allowed to play in this round.

Plus, if it helps City beat Arteta's diving, cheating squad, I'm all for it.

Whether or not the rule is a stupid one does not matter. The fact remains the rule was in place when they bought the player. If they wanted to avoid the rule they should have bought the player sooner.

Did not hear Pep out complaining about the same rule any other season afaik.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

The irony is that prior to this season, neither of Semenyo or Guehi would have been eligible for them in the Carabao.

The rule change has actually benefited them in now allowing Semenyo.

Well he’s obvs only going to be annoyed if it affects him same as all managers.

But you either have players eligible if bought in a window or not. The time element of it is dumb.

100% - and they shouldn’t change the rule for him either. But it is still a ridiculous and pedantic and pointless rule.

It makes sense to me. It's to stop clubs buying players to win a final, when they know they're going to be playing in it. Personally, i'd go back to a blanket rule that you can't play in any cup competition if you've played for another side in the same competition, to keep things simple.

Agreed - either cup tie players or don’t imo. For one player bought within the window to be able to play end the other not is just a bull**** rule for me.

It all shows that the League Cup has lost its Mickey Mouse tag recently.
