One of the more sensible things Merson has come out with tbh. van Persie is a top class player but you wouldn't be going too far out on a limb to say he'll be injured within two months.

he's a good player but 1. he's injured all the time 2. I don't think he's in Villa's class & 3. He's not the type of player Barca usually go for.

RVP is completely different player than Villa and I personally cannot really compare them in terms of who is better.

They are both very good footballers but imo RVP doesn't suit Barca's style of play and from that angle Villa is much better fit for them.

Villa for some reason has become ridiculously taken for granted and underrated. No doubt people think because he plays for Barcelona and Spain his phenomenal achievements and goal records are somehow devalued. Which is obviously complete bunk.
