I think Cahill suited them better. Mertesacker's a good player but I'm not sure Arsenal's system covers his weak points all too well.
Interesting. I can see that not having a good positional DM might be a problem but I think the athleticism around him would be a help. He'll need to be a good communicator though and I guess it is hard to know how easy it would be to transfer that no matter how good he might be in German.

Werder Bremen's general manager Klaus Allofs confirmed that the club has reached an agreement about the Mertesacker transfer with Arsenal.
