Play to the whistle is a phrase only used for cheating, or when the officials have dropped a bollock. As if there are no customs or conventions in the game. This wasn't a defender pausing over an off-site.

Not buying this. Are you saying there is a gentleman's agreement to play the ball out if there's an injury? In my opinion that's the referee's call not the players.

The reason being is players cynically dropping down as evidenced in Europe in almost every match as if they're out for the season only to play on two minutes later like nothing happened. Also used as a tactic to buy time.

Is that any worse than diving to win a pen? Why all the outrage suddenly, yet when certain players dive to win a pen, get someone booked or stall the game, they get praised by actual pundits for being smart? If anything, the Leeds situation was, unlike simulation, actually perfectly legal.

I think it's utter bull****. You play to a refs whistle. Just because Terry has got his players acting the cunt doesn't mean you have to oblige. Two villa players should have been sent off as well.

The only caveat is the player looked to have slowed it down. He should have just played on as normal as it was neither a serious or a head injury.
