I wanted Clichy ahead of Enrique.

        I was wrong. Very wrong.

I think people are getting a little carried away. Clearly a classy player who's started very well for us, but all this best in the league stuff is a little premature I feel.

I also worry that both he and Johnson like to go forwards and might leave us exposed at the back.

Par for the course with any attacking full back though.

I think Downing is a pretty intelligent footballer though and will fill in when Enrique overlaps. Kuyt too. Henderson is also a grafter.

The danger in attacking full backs is when you have a lazy winger (like Babel) who cant be arsed tracking back.

I think it is at least as much about the CBs and central midfielders in front of them. My worry is that without Agger we lack mobility at the back and so far Adam hasn't really perfected his defensive duties.

I don't like having to rely too much on wide midfielders tracking back - especially as Kuyt is poor at distributing from deep areas.

After two games, he’s much better in this department than I gave him credit for. IIRC, his defensive statistics last year for Blackpool were pretty impressive and so far this year they are comparable with Lucas’. I felt he did give away too many free kicks against Sunderland, and at times I though Lucas was left a bit exposed against Arsenal, but the early signs are good and once he gets properly settled in the team and Lucas is back to full fitness then it could be an effective pairing.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I think he certainly has the potential - I've been impressed at his defensive work but his reading of the game or possibly communication with Lucas is not quite there yet. I think how well those to gel will determine whether we get 4th.

I see that Enrique didn't make the spanish squad despite injuries to Pique, Puyol and Iraola, they drafted in Martin Montoya from Barcelona B, who is a right back, in addition to Arbeloa and Ramos.

Enrique is surely better than Arbeloa at left back? Not too bothered though.
                              * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.
