I wa surprised so many people predicted a resounding win for this one. Sunderland will be pretty well this season and it was the first game, always difficult with new players and a crappy preseason. A new CB should be bought next week though.

Just to present another perspective, the Villa fans (as a majority) also emphatically thought Rafa wasnt good enough for them.

      So y'know...
But that's different, they're outsiders when it comes to Rafa. They're clueless as they didn't follow the narrative (clearly). They watch these players every week so it's a subject they're qualified to make a worthwhile judgement on, and the vast majority I've encountered would rather have kept Downing.

For what it's worth I also think Young will be more productive for them than Downing will be for us. You know about my reservations re Downing. Point is those who watched them more closely (much more closely) tend to have a different view.

In some respects, you do make your own luck to an extent. Play percentages, do the right things and there's more of a chance of getting a lucky deflection.
Normally I would agree but there is always an exception to the rule/law and to me that clearly happened today.

Personally he didn't impress me at all today and if you take Rooney out like we did Suarez, he/they would struggle to create chances or score.

          Fair point.

From the sound of it though, they were seeing Young as being too cocky, no longer thinking the club was good enough for him and not a team player - which, if true, would probably have influenced his level of performance for them, given he didnt want to be there anymore - think Torres and the last 6 months of his LFC career, as an example.

I think downing would be a different player in utd's team though.

Young will be more productive but he is a team that are going to win the league. I think we needed a Downing player more than a young player.

Also gooner chap young was onside that is correct but the offside was welbeck.

I guess we'll find out how big the gap is between Arsenal and Liverpool when we play them next week. I hope for GraciousGooner's mental health its not too big. Would destroy him and his Wenger-bubble

This was taken from a report of the Chelsea game today on breakingnews.ie today, can't remember seeing this.

"Bosingwa’s cross-cum-shot was tipped behind by Begovic while Ramires’ run and cross into the six-yard box failed to pick out a team-mate."

Was Wellbeck involved in the goal at all? Or are we back in 1991 rules?

                      Firstly, it's Welbeck.

Secondly, if he is in a position whereby the keeper has to consider his involvement in play, then he's interfering. If a player's presence in an offside position has any influence on the goalkeeper or what the keeper does/thinks, then he's interfering.

Didnt watch the goal in that detail just knew it was just Young and Shrek involved. From a neutral's perspective the ref had a poor game for both sides, there was definitely no bias, obviously.

They weren't impressive anyway, City will win it.

The comments are more interesting, seem to read Young better, but too cocky. Slur Alex will sort that out. I didn't realise Downing was playing second half yesterday.

I think he means the POTY competition that Meireles won 'nationally' - via web votes, i think. Rather than our own POTY competition on LFC forums.

I hate myself for saying this, but Gary Neville is a very good analyst.
