I don't understand why people are so aghast at this

Hodgson bought him as a first 11 player, Kenny sold him as he didn't think he was

We got our money back, and don't have an unsettled player

It's not like we're short of midfield options
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"

So are we all supposed to hate him now?

He's gone. The club don't seem unhappy about it so I don't see why we should be.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

            They're both ****

He'll still be playing a similar role as to what he was doing here, ie. squad player
So I don't think the move was to ensure more regular football.

              From May:

Liverpool will be asked to improve Raul Meireles' contract this summer, less than a year after he joined the club on a four-year deal from Porto.

The Portugal midfielder was signed as a late £11.7m replacement after Javier Mascherano left for Barcelona last summer. Given the uncertainty that surrounded the club under the then-owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett, there was an informal agreement to review his terms if his first season in English football proved successful.

Meireles has been a regular starter under both Kenny Dalglish and Roy Hodgson, scoring five goals in six games shortly after the managerial change, although he is likely to miss the final game of the season at Aston Villa on Sunday, due to a hamstring injury suffered in the recent 5-2 win at Fulham.

Despite the Liverpool hierarchy being overhauled since his arrival, Meireles's agent, José Caldiera, expects the informal agreement to be honoured by Fenway Sports Group and the player is keen to extend his stay on Merseyside.

"If I had this opportunity I'd sign a new contract today. [For] 10, 20 years, for sure," he said recently.

The former Liverpool striker Fernando Torres, meanwhile, wants the club's sports therapist, Ivan Ortega, to join him at Chelsea. Ortega moved to Liverpool from Celta Vigo in 2009 and worked closely with Torres during the Spaniard's final injury-plagued seasons at Anfield. It is understood the striker has asked Chelsea to offer a position to Ortega as he looks to rediscover the form and fitness that has eluded him since his £50m transfer to Stamford Bridge in January.

Actually if he was promised a raise by the previous regime I can understand why he was a bit pissed off (also understand why current bosses don't want to be held to something Purslow promised).

I'm not wishing him luck, but I he is going for a bigger pay and his involvement will be similiar plus the Champions League, kind of understandable decision.

We got 12 million and don't have to pay him wages either so we are saving money we can use for a player next season/january.
                * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

My only qualm is that against Arsenal, when him and Suarez came on, their interplay got us the goals and it was nice to have that option.

A real attacking threat from the bench.

I think in key areas we are. Especially while Gerrard is out. I see no reason to assume we will get many games from our club captain and to me we look lacking in creative options in the middle.

That's why Yossi coming back wouldve been a good option to play between the lines.
                      3rd place. Worst champions ever.

We won't get that from Shelvey or wee jay or anyone else off the bench either IMO. We lost a fair amount of flair with both aqua and raul going. I hope we don't live to regret it !
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

I dunno. Up until he went on his scoring run I wasn't all that impressed by Raul. Hodgson played him out of position for ages and then he seemed to find a bit of form under Kenny. I'd have been happy enough if he'd stayed, even happier if he had left and we had replaced him, but overall I'm not that bothered. Personally I couldn't see him being more than a useful player from the bench.

We have a strong enough squad for the 3 comps we are in, and we will undoubtedly replace him in Jan.

He goes to Chelsea knowing that they were really after Modric, and his signing smacked of a panic buy from the young lad that manages them

Yeah, I wonder what he wants to be when he grows up.
