I have to say I think that the next generation of English educated coaches seem much more interesting than we have seen for a while and doing pretty well. Rodgers, Martinez and Lambert were probably the three most tactically interesting coaches in the PL last year. Pardew and Hughton also seem slightly more outward looking than many older managers. Will eb interesting to see if Clarke make the step up too.
Yes, the next generation of English educated coaches have looked elsewhere to get there education. i.e Spain & Germany.

Howard Wilkinson must be turning his grave. Edit he's not dead yet is he

If he's not turning in his grave, he ought to be.

And yes, I did read your edit.

        EXCLUSIVE
By Greg Stobart & Wayne Veysey

Roberto Martinez is the leading candidate to replace Harry Redknapp as manager of Tottenham, Goal.com understands.

Spurs sources have told Goal.com that the club are considering a number of candidates and are expected to interview more than one of the contenders - with Martinez top of their list.

The Wigan Athletic manager has his admirers in the White Hart Lane boardroom and is set to be formally approached after being made aware through third parties of interest from Spurs.

However, Tottenham are not expected to rush into making a quick appointment.

David Moyes is the favourite with most bookmakers but there is doubt among some senior Spurs figures about his suitability for the post, despite his decade of overachievement with Everton.

Rafael Benitez and Andre Villas-Boas will also be considered by the Spurs board, who are putting great store in the value of Premier League experience after having their fingers burned by the appointments of Juande Ramos and Jacques Santini.

Redknapp's dismissal was announced by Tottenham at 3.37am on Thursday following a night of legal talks to determine the compensation package payable by the club. It followed the irreconcilable breakdown of his relationship with chairman Daniel Levy.

Spurs now want a modern, dynamic manager who can make full use of the club’s magnificent new £40million training ground and develop a squad who have finished fourth in the league in two of the last three seasons.

When Redknapp was the leading candidate for the England job a few months ago, Spurs made progress in sounding out a number of potential replacements. Brendan Rodgers, who was appointed Liverpool manager last month, was the preferred choice.

Martinez, who, like Rodgers, is 39, held talks with Liverpool but made it clear that he was unwilling to work under the three-man team of executives planned by owners Fenway Sports Group.

I can't decide what point you are making and hence I'm not sure if I agree with you

I agree they all have foreign experience of one type of another but none of them have coached abroad (as far as I know). 'English educated' was perhaps a badly chosen phrase though. The fact that new ideas have been able to thrive and that coaches looking to play interesting football have been given a chance though is a positive for me.

I'm not sure how much of the vilification he often gets Howard Wilkinson deserves.

And I'm sure that, however much it is, it isn't enough.

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has confirmed that Tottenham have not made an approach for Latics manager Roberto Martinez.

Tottenham parted ways with boss Harry Redknapp on Wednesday after four years in the job.

Latics boss Martinez was immediately among those to be linked with the vacant manager's position at White Hart Lane, along with the likes of Everton's David Moyes and former Chelsea chief Andre Villas-Boas.

However, Whelan has been quick to dismiss any talk of an approach by the London club for the Spaniard and insists he would not encourage any contact.

"I have not been approached, and Roberto has not been approached," Whelan told ESPN.

"He is so honest that he would tell me the minute that he has, and me being the gob****e I am will tell you straight away"

"I think it's pie in the sky that Spurs want Roberto. It seems that way as they have made no approach.

"That's not to say that they won't, but I hope that Spurs go for David Moyes and leave us alone."
