I didn't think he had the best game, but overall i've been happy with him and think he'll develop into a very good player. Would like to see him be 3rd choice for the remainder of this season rather than Carra. If he makes mistakes I'll accept he can learn from them and it'll be good to get them out of his system now. If Carra makes mistakes then, well they just leave a sour taste in the mouth because he is confirming what most of us accept - that he's well passed it.

Coates moving into the 3rd slot really means we need to move Carragher on in the summer. His wages will be sky-high for a 4th choice centrehalf.

its only early days yet, and im sure he is more wary of giving away stupid free kicks or getting a booking this early in his LFC career. i think i did see him dishing it out in a youtube clip of him at his old club.
im sure this lad will be our new Hypia, and a CB stater for years to come.

He was decent imo. Obviously a little rusty as he hasn't played much but overall I thought he deserves more games to prove himself...

People always seem to say that about young defenders unless they are of the hyper physical kind. Skrtel looks much better now - i think a lot of that is to do with playing more games. I'd be looking to play people like Coates as much as possible to bring them on for the future.

I's also like to see us develop him as another ball playing CB would be massively valuable.
