@LFCZA: Liverpool Echo vs the Sunderland Echo. North-east based paper says Sunderland are only paying £2m for #Coates http://t.co/tJRntOogWs #LFC

He didn't get much of a chance and only in his first season or so in England, he's quite young and is reaching a good age now, although he's a bit shorn on experience. But since playing for us he's played for Nacional and Sunderland and I think he ended his season well for Sunderland.Originally posted by Kenneth View PostI don't see it, he was poor for us.* The above is posted in my opinion. We'll never really know the details of deals like this (wages, agents fees, tax, etc). I don't see why people are so concerned with reported fees.
I don't see the point in keeping players who are at his career stage unless the manager has faith in them. It is clear that Rodgers doesn't fancy Coates. I like Coates (and wish him well) but it doesn't feel like we are accidentally selling the new Baresi. I'd prefer to see us appointing coaching staff before trying to trade for a new defence but equally getting deals done early may give us more freedom in the market and longer to blend a team."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

At 2m in todays market they likely have, a midtable player usually comes at a higher price these.Originally posted by Rich View PostI reckon Sunderland have got themselves a bargain TBH.
I wouldn't, I in all honesty can't see what he's done to convince us or anybody else that he can command a place in a top sides first team, let alone competing around the first team. He's almost 25 and havn't been a first team regular anywhere since moving to us.Originally posted by The_weatherman View PostI'd consider keeping him tbh, 2 million is a pittance and I'm convinced there is a good player in there. They can have Lovren for 2 million if they are skint.
According to wiki he's played 27 games since 2011, including two loan spells at Nacional and Sunderland (10 games last season). He's played more internationals than for any club in the past four years!
Anyhow, at that age I can't see past that so little first team football means he's not really all that good. Decent player maybe, but the chance of him sitting around another year on the bench isn't good for us nor his carreer.
I do wish we would get a few million more though.

In this case I think it is reasonable to wait till the start of the season at least to see how things pan out. Especially with the likes of Coates who has played, maybe, 25 games in the PL over 4 years."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

He wasn't bad...just lacked that something extra to be good enough for Liverpool....a bit like shelvey for me....decent, capable of good, but seemed to lack that extra yard or 100% focus for 90 mins every week.... Need to play every week but not good enough for Liverpool to play every week....will do well at mid to lower end of the table club.i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do
