Just reading the comments on the threads over the last few weeks, do people really despise any football club ? I know we over react in match threads & vent or rant in post match threads, sometimes saying things we don't mean.. but can anyone really be bothered to 'genuinely' despise at football club or player... such vitriol? And do people really believe that referees, the league, the media, other teams are somehow in cahoots & it's all a massive conspiracy against LFC? Really ??

To me the hatred doesn't make any sense, it is pure tribal as someone above mentioned. I love the game but it is just that..a game. We laugh at obsessed United fans talking about us on their forum, how Everton are so bitter etc but we are just as guilty of it. We makes ourselves look like tits talking about other clubs, when we do exactly the same.

We most likely won't win the league.. well short of a massive shock, which can happen. But as much as i get disappointed and frustrated, i can't really 'genuinely' despise a particular football club or a player (unless they are a horrible human being, i'll never know them so i can't ever say). It's not like United or Everton have massacred a small village & killed tiny children. This season has been outstanding, i would rather focus on the rise of LFC than any other aspect of any other club.

There's always a minority that support every club that are irrational & take it to the levels of more than just football. So a lot of Everton supporters wanted their team to lose just so we might not win the league... to me that's their problem and an indictment on them as a club. Surely anybody with that attitude surely is more concerned with the tribal side of the game rather than the football side of the game? As regards Everton themselves.. it's an animosity that has been born out of resentment about us being such a successful club, whilst they remained in the shadows. Bit of the green eyed monster & exactly the same as they way we have been over the past 2 decades with Manchester United.. if we are all honest

Everton vs Liverpool is only a same city rivalry, as they have rarely challenged us in football terms in such a long time. IMO it's not a genuine football rivalry like say Liverpool vs United, both of whom have so much historic success. I'd imagine that a majority of the LFC supporters that despise Everton, are from Liverpool itself. Maybe it's something that me being an out of tower will never understand. I don't despise them or their fans... i just wouldn't want to be one

Anyways, looking at that Chelsea vs Liverpool thread back in 2010 & remembering the way so many LFC fans acted, reminds me that we were/are bitter and resentful of Uniteds success. We were fixated on them as much as Everton are fixated on us & our achievements.

I know i'm a bit of a pessimist (moany ****er) but it's just football at the end of the day... save the genuine hatred for people who really deserve it (like Dane Cook). Or maybe i'm just not as committed or involved as others.. i dunno?

Just thought i'd get that out, probably should have save this for my memoirs or put this is the word vomit thread sorry about that but done now..... the end

Football is irrational Dan. When things go well it brings out the best in people but when it goes bad it's the other way round. At the base it's the same thing.
          Are we winning?

I don't think there is a massive conspiracy *against* Liverpool, but I do believe there is corruption in the game. Whether that has an impact on Liverpool in the grand scheme of things ... I think it's worthy of debate.

All in all, it's a good post, Dan. Nigey is right, football is irrational and the passion that is exerted - good and bad - is just part and parcel of being a football fan. How quickly people 'get over' a result or react to a game is down to personality and their support network around them. You see on these forums, some people take time out with their children, others try mind games with themselves, some believe in fate, others not ... I hate Wenger during the games involving ourself when he moans, but I've just watched an interview with him on Sky and it was Geoff Shreeves boiling my piss.

I think it's because football can be so personal at times ... when it's not ... that makes no sense at all!

Personally I don't think there is, just lots of incompetence leading to bad and / or inconsistent decisions that may appear as corruption.

It's each to their own; I can see both sides of the argument and I can fully understand people putting it down to incompetence and inconsistency. When mixed together with passion, irrationality and general heat-of-the-moment responses, the mind can cause a mischief and you look to make sense of a situation.

I would recommend this if you're looking for some bed time reading:

Next time I send a Barnsley Pack to my brother in Australia, I'll let you know. If you want a copy, I'll send it over to him and he can forward it on. It's a great read and with any sport where there is a lot of money involved, there are always people looking to get rich quick.

                            http://www.givemesport.com/457456-ma...ered-8m-escape

Everton have identified Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley as their top summer transfer target and are ready to pay £8m for the England international, according to The Times.

Cleverley has been the target of criticism from United fans during a turbulent season at Old Trafford, which ultimately cost David Moyes his job earlier this morning.

The 24-year-old is about to approach the final year of his United contract and Everton manager Roberto Martinez is primed to pounce, telling Everton chiefs that he can revive a stagnant career at Goodison Park if a summer deal goes through.

United's plans in terms of player recruitment have been thrown into turmoil by today's sacking, but The Times believe that it would take a bid of around £12m for Cleverley to become an Everton player this summer.

Ultimately the new United manager will have to sign off on the playmaker's future, although with Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick both the wrong side of 30.

Everton also have deliberations to make in terms of midfield options, with current loan star Gareth Barry available for free at the close of the campaign but currently considering a lucrative switch to Major League Soccer.

Martinez would certainly be able to offer Cleverley more than the 17 Premier League starts he's managed so far this term, with United waiting for a concrete offer before making any decision on the star's future.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
