They do, but I would have thought losing TV money for the next couple of years isn't going to help them attract investors

Liverpool the city needs Everton. LFC also need Everton. Its much more enjoyable having rivals who live close by. Makes it much more interesting. Would be a sad day when that fixture is not in the book to look forward to

He wants to know how much he has to pay to stay as manager.

Everton have paid a reported fee of £2m to sign 15-year-old midfielder George Green from Bradford City.

The Toffees are believed to have beaten a number of clubs to Green's signing, including Premier League rivals Tottenham and Germany's Bayern Munich.

Green will become a full-time part of Everton's youth setup next summer.

"He has got good potential but at the moment that's all it is," said the club's academy director Alan Irvine. "He has got a lot of work to do."

"George is a young player who was attracting interest from a number of clubs. We're happy to have him and we're looking forward to working with him here at the Academy."

Bradford-based newspaper the Telegraph & Argus report that Everton will pay Bradford an initial fee of £300,000 with the deal structured to include further bonuses for appearances, new contracts, potential international appearances and a bumper sell-on clause from any future transfer fee.

City's head of football development Archie Christie was quoted in the paper saying: "This is one of the highest deals ever for a 15-year-old from a League Two club. But George is the best I've seen in his position at his age. He could become another Wayne Rooney or Paul Gascoigne."
I thought they were skint. I know the initial fee is only £300k but really? Priorities?

As a selling club it's the sort of deal they almost have to do. As has been pointed out they have an ageing squad but they are probably much better than the teams who will be relegated. In a way while that is true investing in the future is the wisest course for them.

Rodwell's red card appeal was successful - can we now appeal for the other disgraceful tackles that went unpunished?!

Everton accuse Martin Atkinson of costing the club a potential £1m with erroneous dismissal of Jack Rodwell

                                By Chris Bascombe

                                7:30AM BST 05 Oct 2011

An FA appeals panel upheld Everton’s request for the red card in the early stages of the 2-0 defeat to Liverpool to be rescinded.

While Goodison officials welcomed the reprieve for the England Under-21 midfielder, which means he will be available for the next three fixtures, there was a lukewarm response to the verdict.

Chief executive Robert Elstone and Chairman Bill Kenwright argued much of the damage inflicted by the poor decision taken in the 24th minute of Saturday’s fixture was irreversible.

Elstone went so far as to suggest Everton’s Premier League earnings, which are determined by a club’s final placing, could be affected.

“While we obviously welcome the news, it is no consolation to nearly 40,000 fans who had gone to the game expecting to see a contest,” said Elstone.

We don’t know if the decision cost us one or three points, but at nearly £1 million a place in prize money in the Premier League these days, it could prove to be a really expensive mistake, not to mention the biggest disappointment for Jack.

“The Merseyside derby is a special occasion and many of our fans will have made financial sacrifices to make sure they were there to support the team.

“Whilst I doubt there will be few Evertonians celebrating the decision, we are pleased with the news that quite rightly the red card has been rescinded.”

As was widely anticipated before their considerations, the three-man panel agreed within a matter of minutes that Rodwell was not guilty of dangerous play when he tackled Liverpool’s Luis Suarez.

Rodwell is now eligible for Everton’s double header against Chelsea in the Premier League and Carling Cup, as well as an away fixture at Fulham.

There is no indication Moyes will get the apology he demanded from referee Atkinson in the aftermath of the game, and the successful appeal has done nothing to improve the mood at Goodison Park.

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright said: “One of the biggest tragedies was for Jack himself. He has had a terrific season and was by far and away the most influential midfielder on the pitch up to that point.

To deny him the opportunity to continue on such an important occasion must have been incredibly difficult for Jack – as it was for his team-mates, manager and, of course, the fans.”

Atkinson has been severely embarrassed by the incident, which soured one of the Premier League’s flagship fixtures.

He will now be sweating on the possibility of demotion to the Championship once the next set of appointments for Premier League fixtures is announced.

A brief statement on the FA website stated: “Everton’s Jack Rodwell had had his claim for wrongful dismissal upheld.

“As a result, the three-match suspension handed to him has been withdrawn.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool have announced they will play Rangers in a friendly at Ibrox on Tuesday, Oct 18.
