I now hope Moysiewoysie fails miserably and that they need to make another swift stock market announcement at the same time next season
i reckon the main reason the search and recruitment of the new manure manager has gone so smoothly is that all these arrangements have been discussed and plans put in place between moyes and dbf. his contract ending has coincided very nicely to fit in with slurgie stepping down. they have been sharing a bottle for many years, so the speculation had been rife about moyes taking over for many years.
the water was muddied with the likes of maureen and pep coming available, but i really believe these plans were chiselled out a few years ago.

My feeling is that it has more to do with Fergie's ongoing control freakery and inability to completely give up the power. There was no way a successor was gonna be anything but hand picked by him. And that is largely bourne out by his choice imo. The successor was chosen on Fergie's terms.
      Oh I don't know.

I also think it is just a totally different situation. Fergie went when he chose. We sacked our last several managers. I'm sure they had to have thought about/planned for Fergie going. Some say he knew he was going in December so he quite possibly had thought out what to do then.

Of course. Comparisons with our situation are meaningless.
          .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Unless you want to highlight the differences.

They are a small club. They are a small club compared to United, Arsenal, Chelsea, City, Tottenham and Liverpool. I'd say they are a smaller club than Newcastle and Leeds too. Maybe about the level of Sunderland and Villa.

We're not talking about Liverpool are we? We're talking about Everton. They know where they are, what has been achieved, and what they'll be missing.

And you know what is the worst trait in football fans (for me at least). Delusions of grandeur and self entitlement.
Are Everton a smaller club than Newcastle? Are they ****! Where did you get that from? Sure Newcastle sell shirts to the braying mob up in the North East, but they are the epitomy of the small, noveau riche club that tries to compete beyond its means.

Newcastle have been relegated and have all but gone out of existence at least twice in the last twenty or thirty years - Everton, though stifled by a lack of recent investment and throttled by their inability to make progress on moving to a new ground, are still one of the most successful clubs in English football history and are still a grand traditional club with the potential to grow way beyond their current levels.

Newcastle - parochial. Won **** all in their history, near bankrupted themselves recently, soap opera and traditionally selling club who are only really concerned with finishing above Sunderland.

Everton might be a lot of things, but their apparent smallness is down to an inability to move with the financial explosion of the Premiership.

I can see your point, but I'm more in agreement with Brooklyn Red's opinion - Everton fans aren't just Everton fans anymore - they support a grand old club, but are increasingly having to attach themselves to United as a bitter way of getting at Liverpool fans. Its sad - their club has so much more potential than that. Their applauding of Moyes summed it up.

Well, there are many ways to define the 'size' of a club. Attendances, stadium capacity, global appeal, income, history, recent success, potential, league position, number of shirts sold, number of pies sold at half time, average weight of supporters. These are just a few. I'm sure there are more.

It's not scientific, and I've chosen to use different criteria to you. So that is I came up with that.

You have rightly said that they have failed to move with the times. As have LFC to an extent. Others have moved on, and have overtaken them.

Also I would dispute that Newcastle are noveau riche. That would be Chelsea and City. Not Newcastle.

Oh, the "the ****" came across a bit aggressive, it wasn't meant to be.

By noveau riche, I was referring more to the mentality of the support base - the club enjoyed an explosion of relative success in the mid 90's, the ground expanded, they challenged for one season and their expectations of their club, as well as their deluded self proclaimed importance and their self elevated position in the world, went stellar and massively unrealistic. It was the epitome of nouveau riche thinking. Kind of like the massive conservatory being added to the privately bought stone clad council house.

I am a bit reluctant and wary to dismiss Everton, because I have a nagging fear that they are just a few years further down the road of decline than we are. There are too many similarities other than their location to be worried about.

Duncan Ferguson. I'd laugh so hard I'd need to push my innards back up my arse with a stick.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Reece can offer advice on such matters.
