I suppose our plans being released probably had an effect too, can't look like they're being left behind by the wealthy neighbours.

Everton identify potential site for new 50,000-seater stadium

Everton believe they have identified a site within the Liverpool city boundaries for a new 50,000-capacity stadium to replace Goodison Park.

The Premier League club's chief executive Robert Elstone said several plots were being examined and one in particular, which he refused to name.

"The stadium remains a big priority," said Elstone.

"We hope it comes to fruition and if it does I think it's something that the city and our fans will be proud of. Let's be honest - they need something."

In 2010, the Toffees planned to build a £400m 50,000-seat stadium in Kirkby as part of a complex with a superstore and other shops, but the proposal was rejected by the government.

Everton are now exploring options in collaboration with Liverpool City Council to see if they can get a new plan off the ground.

Elstone, who said there could be further news on the matter by the start of next season, added: "The board is currently looking not only at this opportunity, but also the associated risks and the debt that the club may well have to take on to deliver this.

"[But] we wouldn't be investing what we're doing without thinking it had a chance of success."

With a big pinch of salt thrown in:

Didn't someone on the Anfield re-development thread go into some detail about the incremental cost of each extra seat and the payback period?

To have an extra 10,000 (plus) seats which will only get filled once a season on derby day sounds somewhat unlikely.

                      where is that from?

when they refer to partners with the council it might be more to do with favourable planning and the council selling them land.
the council wont be getting involved in any major building with everton as they cant even afford to keep the libraries and children's centres open.

Pretty sure I read it in The Echo article last night. Said it was a similar arrangement as Man City have with theirs. Isnt the Etihad owned by the Council built when the Commenwealth Games took place or something?

I know I definitely read that Everton could not afford to build it. Cunt of a club. They should ask the people. They are the people's club
