It was a typical 'do just enough' thing. If england had needed to win by 3, they would've probably done it.Originally posted by Vermilion View PostBefore the game people were talking 4 or 5 goals for England, Rooney could beat wales on his own etc etc.
Typical day after deflation has set in now it seems, as usual.

That's quite an arrogant position. You're possibly right, but I don't think anything should be taken away from the Welsh performance. England would certainly have wanted a second before going into cruise control - they annihilated us at Cardiff and were 0-2 up in about 5 mins. This was a totally different scenario, and it feels like we're making progress under Speed.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostIt was a typical 'do just enough' thing. If only we had a goal scoring centre forward and a dominant centre back...! I still don't think we'd do that well, but we'd compete for qualification at least.

I heard on the radio Earnshaw has been getting stick for "missing a sitter". It was a great chance obviously and one you'd normally expect him or any other striker to score but it looked like a great save to me so I don't think he can really be blamed..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

It's not 'arrogant' really, i'm not remotely an england fan, so it's not like i'm speaking from a "We could beat you by 3 if we wanted" point of viewOriginally posted by kris90210 View PostThat's quite an arrogant position. I couldnt care less about the england team - but generally (and especially towards the latter stages of a tie/qualification campaign) teams do tend to slip into the 'do just enough' mindset - and i think that sums up England last night.
They played without real urgency or tempo, because having got the goal, the job was done - of course, if Earnshaw could hit a barn door, he would've grabbed a point for Wales and i would've laughed my arse off at England
Wales put in a good performance - but saying england could've won by more if they'd needed to, isnt taking away from Wales - a team can play well, and yet still be on a hiding to nothing if, as was the case, there is a [graciousgooner]big gap[/graciousgooner] in quality/ability between the sides.

Fair enough. I actually made a similar point to my flat mate, about how I reckon England would have stepped their game up if we'd have scored.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostIt's not 'arrogant' really, i'm not remotely an england fan, so it's not like i'm speaking from a "We could beat you by 3 if we wanted" point of view
