Pub teams over here are ridiculous - or at least mine was. I used to go to the pub at 11am on a Saturday, drink in there for 12 hours before "having a wander" elsewhere and putting all sorts up my nose into the bargain. Many times I'd find myself back at the pub at 7am, walk back home to get my boots/shin pads, back to the pub where we'd meet then on to our Sunday morning game.

It's true! It was very much a lifestyle then, you'd meet up Saturday at the pub, have some grub, get a taste for the ale, head to the snooker club, catch some football, have a flutter and then head in to town and go where ever the night takes you, you'd then wake up somewhere you shouldn't be, amble past the pub, hair of the dog and get to the match.

It wasn't Sunday league if someone wasn't throwing up at the corner flag and I've known mates clatter the opposition just to get a red card (extreme circumstances I might add), take the fine and the bollocking on the chin, just to lie down and then you'd head back to the pub and keep going until you just needed to go home.

I have no idea how I afforded it back then, I've got responsibilities now but I do look back at those times with great fondness. Age catches up with you eventually Fernandinho!

Do you guys think in some cases its a club protecting the player and saying he is out injured? I can see a case for it if the player has had alot of money spent on them. I mean, imagine if it was Torres and they just had to terminate his contract. Money down the drain.

Never played football properly at weekends as an adult, but used to go to Taekwondo in some right ****ing states - 4 hours sleep and absoloutely trollied. Worst time was after getting my head stoves in by 3 scallies. Went to the lesson with a face like a trashed tomato, full-on shakes and when I was punching the pads, blood was flying off my knuckles. Don't think my instructor was impressed at all. Went into uni the next day & got sent to hospital- had to have a week off with concussion.
