De Gea nicked for pinching doughnut

D'oh! United 'keeper nabbed for stealing doughnut in Tesco

New Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea was let off with a warning after being nabbed stealing a doughnut in Tesco.

The 20-year old Spaniard was caught on CCTV cameras pinching an original glazed doughnut, worth around €1.39, from a Krispy Kreme shelf in the Tesco store in Altrincham, Manchester.

De Gea ate the donut while still in the store, but as he went to exit, he was accosted by security staff – one of whom spoke fluent Spanish – and brought into a ‘stop and search room’, where he was later released without charge.

A source said de Gea waltzed into the Tesco store with two Spanish pals and said that he was “deeply embarrassed” by his jammy mistake.

“They weren’t very subtle. They swaggered in chatting loudly in Spanish,” said the source.

“The security guards who monitor the CCTV watched two of them take a doughnut each out of the Krispy Kreme cabinet.

“Incredibly, they then appeared to try to leave without paying – or buying anything else for that matter.”

A Tesco source added: “A customer was spoken to by our security team and the issue was resolved.”

De Gea has enjoyed a far from sugar-coated start to his Manchester United career and rather than establishing himself as an authoritative presence in the United defence, it seems as if he has been merely filling a hole in the United rearguard so far.

Opposition teams have been targeting the callow De Gea in the Premier League and they will be licking their lips at the prospect of heaping further misery on him after this tasty episode.

Interestingly, the Spaniard is said to get his sticky fingers on around €80,000 per week, which by our calculations, would buy him around 57,554 Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

Many observers have felt that De Gea has looked like a bit of a jammy dodger in his short United career to date; now they have irrefutable evidence to back it up.

That is one of my pet hates. People who can't stop themselves from munching around the supermarket.
    Oh I don't know.

It's bad manners, and it looks horrible. Then the poor check out assistant has to scan an empty bag of crisps or a banana skin. Really rude.
                Oh I don't know.

I'm surprised he didn't drop it.

Asda in Cribbs Caasway is bigger than that. Awful place. Industrialised shopping.

The Asda in Wigan had (from memory) 54 checkouts last time I was there, and that was before self-service tills were introduced. Probably got almost 70 by now!
