Diagnosis in as severe concussion so much more favourable than first feared

Hopefull nothing untoward on the scans and he'll be playing again in a few weeks time

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Just spoke to Joe Hinnigan the Accrington Stanley physio, he says Tom Bender is sat up in bed at hospital talking to his mum and dad.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

I know of the lad as he is from around where I used to live. Nice kid. Shame about what happened.

                  Sounds like good news.
I still remember when I first saw the pictures when Dagnfinn Enerly broke his neck in a match in 2005. He collided with a teammate and was paralyzed from the neck down.

well i hope that this lad will be OK, and that there won't be any consequences, but why was game suspended, just because one player was (seriously) injured?

They were treating him on the pitch for more than half an hour and it looked life threatening. I read the other players were pretty traumatised.
                      Oh I don't know.

They put him on a drip on the pitch, I dont think I could have carried on playing if I was watching that go on.

Bender's father pays tribute to Accrington Stanley medical staff2:25pm Wednesday 5th October 2011

                          PrintEmailComments(0)
THE father of Accrington Stanley defender Tom Bender has paid tribute to the club's medical staff as his son recovers from the head injury that forced last night's match against Tranmere to be abandoned.

Bender sustained the injury 38 minutes into the Johnstone's Paint Trophy after being inadvertently punched by keeper Ian Dunbavin as both attempted to clear the ball.

The 18-year-old was unconscious for several minutes and was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital.

The match was abandoned with players left distressed by the incident.

Bender was accompanied to the hospital by father Lee and team-mate Kurtis Guthrie and is now recovering after getting the all-clear following scans, although he did sustain severe concussion.

Bender's father Lee said: "Tom's okay. He's in good spirits. He doesn't remember too much about it but that's nothing unusual
                          !

"I'm just glad I was here really. I don't think he knew much about it though. He certainly didn't acknowledge me in the hospital! He recognised his team mate Kurtis Guthrie more than me.

"It was just a comfort to me, my wife and my family that I was able to be with him.

"The medical care he got was absolutely superb. I'd like to thank everyone from Accrington and from Tranmere and the medical staff. We couldn't have wished for any more. The players and management teams from both sides were great and everyone at Colchester's been brilliant too.

"It's amazing that there's so much interest. The void between Premier League and League Two seems so great but when something like this happens there is no barrier. They're all in the same job and they're all doing the same thing and they all feel for each other.

"We're just waiting to find out from the doctors when they are going to release him from the hospital and when he's available to come back for training and selection for the first team.

"I'd just like to say thank you very much to everyone that's been in touch, with both Accrington and Colchester. Tom would like to thank everyone as well, and I'm sure when he's able to do that he will.

"From myself and my wife and the rest of my family I'd just like to thank every single one of the well wishers."

                          Bender better late than never
                          RIP IRWT post/rant, best ever

I think, it certainly is the case in amateur football and no disrespect to accrington stanley, they're not that far off it* - that if a game is postponed for more than 30 minutes it automatically gets called off whatever the cause of the delay, be it a fans protest, weather or injury

                            * what i mean in that is, ok premiership clubs will have world class doctors and unbelievable facilities on hand to deal with such a situation - accrington stanley are closer to being a amatuer side than a prem side.
i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

...On reflection it explains a lot.
                                .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.
