Nicey - yes, I appreciate what the word means in Spanish (god knows, it's been said enough times - even though it's not the word Suarez admitted to using).

The context is that he's insulting someone by referring to the colour their skin in England.

So whether you like it or not, there is a new context for the word.

Suarez and Evra were not having a nice kick about on a South American beach exchanging friendly banter.

They were in the middle of the most incendiary game in English football.

    Context, as ever is everything.
Well, actually this conversation seems a little redundant because if the above accounts are accurate he was being racist and its an open shut case. Seems strange that so much dissection of the word Negretta at the time, if he never actually said that in the first place.

Jesus honestly the first issue I ever felt strongly about was racism, I would never in a million years defend it. I think some times there is a rush to judgement culture now.

Take the Liam Nelson case ... he was painfully honest ... honest in a way not many people are these days ... in context ... he told of a story of someone he cared about being raped by a person of a certain ethnicity and how that night if he had met any man of that ethnicity he would have killed him

People cried Racist !!! Racist !!! hes racist !! no he is ****ing human and he is honest in a world full of cowards ... nothing he said was racist but he is labled as such

Anyway .. I abhor racism in any shape or form, and I suppose I would rather us be more sensitive about it and wrong from time to time than not sensitive at all and wrong most of the time

:handshake; To be honest that was new info to me also.

It is an interesting point on the acceptance of Muslim players etc and how much is to do with the tribalism of football and how much is genuine acceptance of Muslim culture.

For some I am sure there is no bigotry, for many others I am not convinced.

It’s certainly a good point for us all to take stock of what is acceptable and what we truly believe and why we are defending certain points.
      Modifying post.

The late, Darcus Howe, anti-racism campaigner, writer, public intellectual made a brilliant documentary on racism in England recently. Basically racism amongst white English people was at its lowest since records began. This was pre Brexit though so I don't know what those figures would show now, amongst the West Indian, Asian and African communities racism was exploding towards one and another.

Ask anyone who has travelled this planet and lives in different cultures and countries, racism is everywhere and all colours partake in it, unfortunately.

              Its cultural ignorance and arrogance

Is the rollin stones song posted above Racists ?

Negrita is a term of endearment ... Suarez was winding him up ... he was calling him his little sweet girl ....Negrita is never used with racist intent and it is not a racist word .. its still been used today over and over again by people of all colours in non english speaking countries with zero problems and zero people claiming its racist
Yeah but he was in England when he said "negrita"..........it is like saying the word "bomb" on a plane. You just can't do it...... Especially in England....

The rolling stones probably sang that song where there were loads of happy negritas around the place....
So it wouldn't have been a problem then

The Football Association's report into the incident, released at the end of December 2011, stated that, after being tackled by the Uruguayan, Evra asked Suarez why he had kicked him, to which the forward replied in Spanish: "Because you are black."

When Evra challenged him to repeat the answer and said he would "punch him", Suarez said: "I don't speak to blacks."
In fairness, it should be pointed out that this extract is specifically Evra's account of what happened.

It wasn't corroborated by any of the witnesses (including Man Utd players) nor any recorded TV/audio evidence. Nor did it match Suarez's version of events, needless to say.

I'm pointing this out out of any bias, I just think it's fair to make it clear.

I’m not sure The Rolling Stones are the best people to hold up as being in tune with racial awareness considering some of their songs and behaviour.

                      From Wikipedia:

"That makes it... the whole mess thrown in. God knows what I'm on about on that song. It's such a mishmash. All the nasty subjects in one go... I never would write that song now." When interviewer Jann Wenner asked him why, Jagger replied, "I would probably censor myself. I'd think, 'Oh God, I can't. I've got to stop. I can't just write raw like that.'"
                      Oh I don't know.

Glen Johnson was on talksport today and Jim White was pushing him to say LFC should apologise to Evra.
Johnson said Suarez was a good mate of his,he didn't think he was racist and only Evra and Suarez actually knew what was said.
It's always glossed over that Evra allegedly called Suarez a "sur americano" first.
To me it seemed like two hyper competitive, win at all costs, wind up merchants winding each other up.
Remember Evra originally said to Ferguson " Boss, boss Suarez called me n'''''er" - which was totally untrue.

This is Suarez view on it.
