I know it's only peripherally related, but I often wonder what footballers really say about fans behind closed doors. I know the whole "doing it for the fans" in front of the camera carry on and they're brilliant at ignoring the fat red-faced ******s at every corner flag and pass it off as "banter" but seriously - this repulsive racism isn't the only horrible **** that happens in football grounds. I often thought fair play to Cantona for pole axing that **** years ago - like, it was totally wrong but also ****in excellent - and it wouldn't bother me in the slightest if some POC player walloped some racist goon some day, aside from it being totally wrong etc.

Serie A anti-racism campaign: League apologises for monkey artwork

"I realised it was inappropriate," said the league's chief executive Luigi De Siervo in a statement.

      No **** you idiot

Not sure why Dave Jones had to make that statement at the end there.

The caveat added by SKY at the end is ironically the problem.

Definitely not Dave Jones' fault....or rather he was clearly told to say that. Maybe someone else would've - and probably should've - ignored that and held the line. But he'd probably have lost his job. But Murdoch's Sky are obviously a part of the problem.

Murdoch doesn't own Sky or any part of it.

                  I had no idea

Still, their news coverage panders to a lot of this ****. Feel a bit sorry for Jones.

On the subject of racism we get this gem from Danny Murphy on MOTD2

                    'Something needs to happen'

                    errrr.....Thanks Danny.

I have a lot of respect for Gary Neville for actually attempting to tackle the issue head on, pointing out how sanctimonious the FA have become, as opposed to sidestepping it and hoping the issue sorts itself out with a banal statement like The one Murphy gave. It’s rare in football that a white person expresses a point of view or any genuine outrage about racism and it needs to happen more.

I understand that Dave Jones has a job to do and undoubtedly had someone shouting in his ear, but the words must have stuck in the craw a bit.

It’s a bit like when Trump said people ‘were out of order on both sides’ when those race riots happened with the folk carrying burning torches in the US. One side doesn’t really need it’s POV defended or a neutral position offered.

Neville was a cunt whilst a Utd player but he's garnered a lot of respect as a pundit on football and political matters.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I thought it was the old Southampton boss that had said something and wondered what he was doing on the show

So he wasn't made to intervene by his employers yesterday?

If so his comments are indefensible.
